Lakins, '61E; Hope P. Martin, '60E; Charles D. Muscott, 160E; and Robert V. Schechter, 160E. Initiated as an honorary mem- ber was James Thompson. Officers taking office for the coming year at the banquet were Ronald R. Tesarik, '60E, presi- dent; James A. Knister, '60E; vice-president; Stanley H. Caplan, 161E; corresponding secretary; Hirokuni Tamura, '60E, recording secretary; and Douglas B. Brown, '61E, treasurer. fResearch ranging from anatomy to X-ray is a four million dollar adventure for University scientists and doctors. Nineteen departments of the medical school have grants total- ing $663,432. The public health school studies, includin gthose di- rected by the National Sanitation Foundation, use $1,200,000. Al- most half a million dollars is di- vided among the Colleges of Phar- macy, School of Dentistry, Men- tal Health Research Institute and the Institute of Industrial Health. Many of the grants are renewed yearly, and new ones are con- stantly being awarded. The federal government furnish- es most of the money, making re- search awards through the U.S. Public Health Service, the Armed Forces, Atomic Energy Commis- sion and many other agencies. Other supporters are the aUni- versity Phoenix Project for atomic energy research, private founda- tions, and philanthropies, Commercial drug firms encour- age research in pharmacy, bio- chemistry and pharmacology.
