COMING THROUGH!-Ron Clark juts his chin aggressively as
he plows through the water in the 200-yd. breaststroke to set a
winning pace of 2:17.6 for the event, just .2 slower than his
record Big Ten time. Clark was the only individual swimmer'who
took a first place for the Wolverines in 'the Dallas meet; in the
Friday night events, he was the only Wolverine (individual or
relay team) who was able to rise above the third rank.

WORRY MUCH?-Indiana University's coach Jim Counsilman (left) and coach Peter Daland of
Southern California (right) look rather grim as they clock their entries in the preliminary heats of
the NCAA swimming meets in Dallas. However, both stopped frowning shortly after as their swim-
mers, particularly Daland's Trojans, came through one by one. Another handicap for the Wolverines
was the dazzling form displayed by Ohio State University diver Sam Hall. Defending champion on
the three-meter board, Hall not only retained his title but went on to sweep the low board honors
from Big Ten champ Joe Gerlach of Michigan (below left), who placed only third in the one-meter
(behind Frank Gorman of Harvard) and second in the three-meter.

FLYIN' HOME-Indiana's brightest light in the Dallas meet was 19-year-old Mike Troy, whose
performances in the 100- and 200-yd. butterfly and the 400-yard medley relay events added substan-
tially to Indiana's team point total, pushing them up closer and closer to the Wolverines and the
USC Trojans. More disappointing to Coach Counsilman was Frank McKinney (below left), con-
sistently left behind in the wake of USC's Chuck Bittick. His disqualification in a preliminary heat
of the 200-yd. backstroke also meant the loss of a few more points for the eagerly climbing Hoosiers.
Perhaps even more disappointing (to Michigan's hopes) was the finish of the 100-yd. freestyle, when
judges awarded the first-place spot to Peter Lusk of Yale after many minutes of head-shaking
deliberation over the photo-finish between Lusk and Frank Legacki of Michigan (below right).
