By LORA KRAPOHL
A special translation of thel
play, "Ubu Roi," by French sym-
bolist Alfred Jarry will be given
by the John, Barton Wolgamot
Society at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow and
Sunday in the Arena Theater,
Frieze' Bldg.
"Ubu Ro." (liberally translated
as "Gopotty Rex") is "sort of a
wild burlesque of Macbeth and
Julius Caesar" according to the
translators Joseph Kennedy and
Bernard Keith, Grads.
"The first production was giv-
en in 1896 and at the very first
word the audience rioted and fist
fights broke out in the orchestra,"
said Kennedy. "We are curious to
see what will happen to Ann Ar-
bor audiences. But we don't ex-
pect the same reaction here," di-
rector Keith added.
"The central characters are
Papa Gopotty and Mama Gopotty,
the most rotten man and -wife in
the theater," Kennedy said.
"The play includes several mur-

ders, assasinations, and battle
scenes. In fact, in one scene it
has the entire Polish army on the
march in the Ukraine," Keith said
and then added, "the play has a
large cast and uses most of the
resources of the theater."
The leads will be taken by
Emmanuel McCann as Papa
Gopotty and Anias Aiken, as
Mama Gopotty. An Elizabethan
string and wind quartet will sup-
ply the music.
Tickets for the production are
being sold for 95c at Marshall's
Book Store until 5:30 p.m. tomor-
row. The remaining tickets will
be sold at the door.
"The John Barton Wolgamot
Society, which was recognized by
SGC in December of '59, is mainly
an organization of graduate stu-
dents although it has some un-
dergraduate members. It is de-
signed to do experimental plays
which everyone talks about but
no one does," said Kennedy.,
