The Ann Arbor Civil Theater sponsors a program of five or six full scale productions each year in addition to frequent one-act plays and dramatic workshops. The theater, now entering its thirty-second year; is one of the oldest cultural organizations in the state, according to last year's pres- ident, Zeke Jabbour. During the past year the group produced "Mr. Roberts," "A Per- iod of Adjustment," "The Cruci- ble," "Night Must Fall," and "Pa- jama Game." Not Decided The playbill for this year has not been definitely decided, Jab- bour said. Membership in the Civic Thea- ter is open to anyone and the dues are $1.50. The group issues a spe- cial welcome to University stu- dents interested in participating in the productions. Auditions are held regularly before the plays and rehearsals are conducted on week- dayevenings. The Civic Theater is now a self- sufficient organization no longer relying on endowments for sup- port. Every year there are over 200 active participants in the thea- ter's productions, Jabbour said.f Good Cooperation The cooperation between the Civil Theater and the University Faculty Jury Candidates for degrees appear before a full faculty jury to have their selections approved. Upon approval, a performance is sched- uled and the student appears be- fore a public audience. Any ac- companists needed are chosen from students in the music school. These recitals, numbering 160 last year, will be announced in the Daily Official Bulletin. Fall Schedule Louis Stout and Millard Cates, French horn and tenor, respec- tively, and Jerome Jelinek, cello, are scheduled for the fall term. The music school has invited in- dividuals outside the University to perform here. Fernando Valenti, guest harpsichordist, and Anton leiler, Viennese organist, will per- form this fall., Outside of these recitals andt performances for the public, the music school offers a composer's forum, a midwestern choir confer- ence, and a conference on organ music for the coming year. speech department is excellent. However, the majority of .partici- pants are Ann Arbor residents. Performances this year will be held in Trueblood Auditorium in the Frieze Building and the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater in the League. This is the first year the Auditorium will be available for the Civic Theater as the new pro- fessional troupe will also be using Lydia Mendelssohn Theater. Hoover will be this year's presi- dent.
