Bun- tin and Harris continually blocked shots with gay abandon, and the whole squad constantly took ad- vantage of the visitors' miscues to steal the ball and set up a fast break. Little Trouble On the outside, the diminutive Herner and Cantrell had relative- ly little trouble with rivals Tom Apke and Tom Hext, 6'5" and 6'4" respectively. The Wolverines led in every de- partment imaginable. They shot' 40.2 per cent to Creighton's 29.6, and outrebounded them, 61-56. They also shot free throws at a 15 for 19 clip, compared with 14 out' of 24 for the Bluejays. But perhaps the biggest differ- ence of all was Buntin's domina- tion of Silas. The 6'7" center for the Omaha, Neb. team made just five field goals out of 28 at- tempts. Whenever he did manage to get the ball, he was forced to shoot over Buntin, because he just couldn't get around. As a result, his hook shot was feeble, and his layup non-existent. Advantageous Frame In contrast, Michigan's 6'7" man from Detroit's Northern High School used his 232-lb. frame to displace Silas' usual threat under the basket. And, just to keep the defense honest, he occasionally dumped in a few jumpers at 10 feet. Needless to say, Coach Dave Strack was ecstatic with praise over his charges. "Everyone had his fair share of the win," said Strack. "They came ready to play tonight, and weren't nervous like against Ball State. We took the initiative with about 12 minutes gone in the first half, and didn't give it up except for about two minutes at the beginning of the second half. It may be an old cliche, but it was a team effort all the way, and I'm very proud of all of them." "Silas is a fine player, there's no doubt in my mind about that," he commented. "After I saw himi play Saturday, I knew we'd have to stress rebounding, and I guess the results speak for themselves." Creighton came into town a highly touted ball club, having lost only to national champ Cincinnati in the district playoffs last year. But Michigan showed promise of things to come with seemingly no effort at all. OA 4.. AUST IN DIAMOND CORPORATION 1209 South U. 663-7151 Florida In Gator Bowl JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
