V, OCTOBER 28, 1962 THE MICHIGAN DAILY ~', OCTOBER 28, 1962 THE MICHIGAN DAILY ANN ARBOR'S FINEST PAPERBACK BOOK DEPT.! 5000 TITLES BROWSE AT FOLLETT'S COLLEGE CLAMOR: Flint Students Request Writ of Clarification For Direct Classified Ad Service, Phone NO 2-4786 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9:30 'till 11:30 A.M. By MARTHA MacNEAL Attorneys for student plaintiffs from the Flint Community Junior College filed papers in the United States Federal District Court Mon- U U "MASTERY... MAGIC ... SHEER MUSIC! *- i' 'I, . --Mossman, Detroit News COMING NOV. 8 HILL AUDITORIUM THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN PROFESSIONAL THEATRE PROGRAM Proudly Presents day asking an injunction against the Flint Board of Education, FCJC Dean Lewis Fibel, and Gen- eral Superintendent of City Schools Lawrence L. Jarvie. The suit was entered in an effort to clarify legal questions concerning the recent suspension of the student newspaper, the College Clamor. The suit also at- tempts to clarify the policies set up regulating its publication. The student plaintiffs feel that court action is the only means by which a satisfactory settlement can be reached. A statement released by Hugh Carr, chairman of the state region of the United States National Stu- dent Association, cites the recent suspension as "a flagrant and unwarranted action." Plaintiffs say that the guaran- tee of experience in journalism contained in the college catalogue description of the Clamor con- stitutes a contract which would be violated by suspension of the paper, and that such acts may continue on "an arbitrary and capricious basis." The plaintiffs also believe that the Clamor was suspended for the sole reason that opinions express- ed by staff members differed from the views of the defendants, and; that staff members' civil rights guaranteed by the first amend- ment have been violated. The students will ask a prohibi- tion against censorship or suspen- sion of the Clamor because of political, social and economic viewpoints of staff members. Arrangements For Exchange Almost Ready Arrangements are being final- ized for an exchange program to be conducted with an Indian uni- versity beginning this June, Prof. Claude Eggertsen, chairman of the education school's internation- al education committee, said re- cently. The reciprocal program would exchange one education professor and up to three graduate students, who would teach and conduct re- search for a year at the partici- pating university. The program would run at least through 1968. Formal approval has been ob- tained from the State Department, various Indian government agen- cies, and the University of Baroda and the University of Bombay, either or both of which may take a part, Prof. Eggertsen said.
