MOMENT OF TRUTH-Wolverine fullback Wayne Sparkman meets head-on with
Purdue defender Curtis Vick in a classic runner-meets-tackler situation. Vick won
the battle as did most of Purdue's tacklers, and runners, all day.

BRACE YOURSELF-Michigan quarterback Bob Timberlake tries vainly to get off
a pass. John Greiner (92) and Don Brumm (73) zero in for a soon-to-be-successful
attempt to bring Timberlake to earth.

THE LINE MICHIGAN CAN'T CROSS-Michigan has yet to score a point in Big Ten play this sea-
son and today its impotent offense runs into one of the Conference's tougher defenses in the Minne-
sota Gophers.

MINNESOT A

WRAPPED UP-Wolverine halfback Harvey
Chapman (46) finds himself wrapped up in a
maze of arms, numbers, and heads as he hits
the Purdue line.

TIMBERLAKE AGAIN-This time he has switched to a defensive role and is trying to bring down a Purdue ball-
carrier, Gene Donaldson, from behind to stave off a long gain.

Scoreless Offense
May Hurt Chances
Gophers Led by Bell, Munsey, Eller;
Boast Triumphs over Illinois, Navy
By TOM WEBBER
Sports Editor
Michigan should have everything going for it today in the annual
battle with Minnesota's Golden Gophers.
Besides trying to regain the bit of crockery they call The Little
Brown Jug, the Wolverines will be out to show a homecoming crowd
that they are not as bad as a 28-0 loss to Michigan State and 37-0
shut out by Purdue would indicate. They also will be searching to
cross the goal line for the first time this year in a Big Ten contest.
Michigan should have everything to gain and nothing to lose,
while Minnesota, presumably, will be fighting over-confidence. The
Wolverines have already been labeled one of the worst teams ever
seen in Ann Arbor, and anything short of another shut out would be
a significant improvement. They also haven't had possession of the
Jug since 1959.
. "Our morale will be high against Minnesota, I'm sure," head
Coach Bump Elliott said. "These boys want to win and they're going
to make a supreme effort to redeem themselves. We caught Purdue
on the rebound after losing to Miami. We've got to enter the Minne-
sota game in the same frame of mind as they were," Elliott added.
There is no place but upcfor the Wolverines, buttbefore that hap-
pens they must score. A fact which may be hard to realize against
the Gophers' tough defense.

THE NOT SO LITTLE BROWN JUG--This is the trophy that
Michigan and Minnesota have been battling for since 1903. Min-
nesota has had it to adorn its trophy room for the past two years,
but last year it took a last minute fumble for the Gophers to
retain possession.

TITROUCH TF MOB-Dave Baimey (19) attempts to rip through the Purdue line for a long gain, but finds himself bottled up by Ron Meyer (32), Charles King
(47), and Don Keiser (76). Wolverine guard Dave Kurtz (on ground) and Bob Brown (86) lead Raimey's interference.
