TINAT E DEANS OF MEN AND WOMEN:

Lewis ReorganizesOffice of Student Affairs,

MONTGOMERY WARD
ARBORLAN D

supervise the present OSA func-
tion of distributing scholarships
and loans on the basis of need.
The director of student organi-
zations and discipline is John1
Bingley. He will oversee the acti-
vities of the many student groupst
at the University, with most of his
work at first centering on a re-
vision of the judiciary system.
He is expected to make pro-
posals along lines suggested in thej
Reed Report: that judiciaries be
consolidated into one general unit,"
with an advisory board, board of
appeal and provisions "for due
process.
Seek Director
The director of housing has not
yet been appointed, although Lew-,
is hopes to find the person for
the job by fall. This office will
involve only matters affecting;
residence halls. For the time be-
ing, Bingley will supervise other
types of housing, such as affiliated;
units and apartments.
The new director of housing is;
expected to form new policies to
induce a more comprehensive aca-
demic atmosphere in the residence
halls, and to carry out established
plans such as those for coeduca-
tional housing, which is slated for
next fall.
Besides the duties handled by
his assistants and the directors,
Lewis also has authority over the
International Center, Health Ser-
vice, the Bureau of School Ser-

vices and the Bureau of Appoint-
ments.
These are units serving even
more specialized types of students
than the directorships. For in-
stance, the scholarships and loans
department is available to any
student wishing financial aid,
while the International Center
serves mainly foreign students,
although any student is welcome
there.t
Health Service shelters students
suffering from any sickness that
doesn't require major surgery, and
provides aspirin, penicillin and
other clinical services.
The Bureau of School Services
offers consultation, liaison and
accrediting survey services in
order to better community rela-
tions and publications programs
for elementary, secondary, public
and private schools.
Job Requests
The Bureau of Appointments is
an agency which funnels job re-
quests from other educational in-
stitutions and business firms to
students who apply at the bureau
and file their job qualifications
and desires.
The vice-president for student
affairs also serves on the Board in
Control of Student Publications,
the Office of Religious Affairs and
the Residence Halls Board of
Governors.
In addition to the advice to be
extended as a matter of routine
by his assistants and the directors,

Lewis also will have an advisory
group, formed of five students
from Student Government Coun-
cil and members of the University
Senate Student Relations Com-
mittee.
This new group will be advisory
only, with no formal power. It
will meet "from time to time" with
Lewis or his staff to consider any
matter affecting the OSA. The
student - faculty committee will
also be a channel for suggestions
and complaints from any group,
inside or outside the University.
