Girls have been buying A- line coats, fitted through the schoulders and bust and belted in the back. The coats this year are highly styled. This is a big change from last year, when girls were buying full, collarless coats. There has also been a change from the The heavy camel car coat is still a favorite for more casual wear. Beginning last year and stead- ily increasing in popularity, are the "Rain-Shine" coats with the zippered linings. Girls have found these coats invaluable for chilly, rainy Ann Arbor springs and falls. Stadium Coat Another new favorite this year is the stadium coat. They are usually made of felt and often have a hood. Suede coats are also growing in By JUDITH KOBAKI Footwear fashions on campusI are no longer just coverings for weary feet: they are now color- ful, comfortable and fun. In classes the University woman is wearing the perennial favorite loafers. As usual, the penny- loafer and the Italian loafers are most popular. However, this year they are often seen in new grainy- textured or reptile-skin leathers. The light wax-hide finish is common too. Whereas a few years ago the "uniform" in footwear was dirty white sneakers and white wool bobby socks, the cur- rent fashion is loafers eitheri with- out socks or with stockings. Feet Disappear For a major part of the Uni- versity year, though, female feet will disappear into warm, fashion- able boots. The knee-high boots' which were so popular last year will be back in full force. Following the trend of more variety in color and texture, boots this year will not only be tradi- tional black leather; alligator and lizard grains will be available as well as the shiny patent leather finish. Pixie Boot A new casual shoe is the short pixie-ish leather boot. This comes in a variety of colors and mater- ials, and looks especially smart with stretch slacks. A Saturday night hike from the dorms to Hill Aud. is not longer a thing to be dreaded-as long as you keep in style with the new lower heels and less-pointed shoes. However, comfort is not all that is new in dressy shoe. Although heels used to be only in dark neu- tral colors, they now accept or complement outfits with such col- ors as wine, dark green and rich blue. New Materials And they too come not just in the ordinary smooth calf and suede, but in reptile prints of liz- ard or alligator, as well as com- binations of these with other ma- terials. Stockings should prove even! more fun than the shoes. The tra- ditional solid-color knee-socks will be back to complement winter out- fits and add warmth. But along with the solid-tone tights and ny- lons are wild textured and print- ed nylons and tights. They are made of nylon, antron, wool, orlon and lycra and 'ome in crazy pat- terns of stripes, diamonds, dots and even laces ir late-day wear. At first they may seem radical, but they are gaining great popu- larity. Not only are they colorful and interesting, but they are warmer than the usual knee-socks for that infamous Ann Arbor weathe i. TI For o menT s FT popularity. The Ann Arbor stores had many calls for them last year and have stocked many new styles which seem to very popular. Diseotheque To Rule Fashions By SHIRLEY ROSICK The "little black dress" again steals the evening scene, and it's littler than ever-due to the in- fluence of discotheque dancing. Women who want to Frug fash- ionably should choose short, loose- fitting black crepes or wools. The dresses also display consid- erably lowered necklines, although there is "no real bare bosom cam- paign," as one local saleswoman said. The complete discotheque look includes lacy black stockings and small-heeled pumps. Try White, Too White--especially in crotcheted wool-and some vivid reds and pinks are also finding their way to the dance floor and the concert hall. While the simple A-line and flared styles remain, dresses have become more feminine with the addition of ruffles, runnels, flounc- es, or crotcheted trimming. Sleeveless styles predominate, made up in crepe, lightweight wool and ribbed silk fabrics. One of the campus stores re- ports that the floor length and mid-calf length dresses are be- coming increasingly popular. These appear in black and white, as well as vividly patterned sheer wools. Sheaths for the Conservatives As a consolation for the more conservative, the classic fitted sheath is still available. According to one local store owner, these sheaths usually prove to be the best sellers. Most girls derise "not to stun anyone but rather to show-off their figures," she said. \ VN By LILLx VENDIG Broadway plays are the source of many of the new blouse styles now being sported on campus. The middy has spring from "Hello Dolly." Tom Jones" produced the ruffled look and "Oliver" gave birth to the blouse with the Peter Pan collar and bow. The flip tie is another new look. It consists of a high neck with an ascot flip-over. The tie is almost men's tie length and is worn with a tie pin. White long-sleeved blouses with a bow and ruffles are in greatest demand to back up dress suits, but other styles have large numbers of supporters.
