Purdue had a disappointing 12- 12 over-all record this season and finished 5-9 in the Big Ten, but Dave Schellhase won the confer- ence, scoring championship and stood No. 4 in the nation. Purdue Star Eddy, a star of two Purdue Big Ten champions, played on Boiler- maker teams that won 46 games and lost nine in three seasons and claimed the national collegiate title in 1932. Graduated in 1934, he coached high schol basketball five years at Tell City, Ind., and 11 years at Madison, Ind. Eddy came to Purdue in the fall 1,) 1950 when Purdue basketball fortunes had hit rock bottpm. It was a slow buildup but his teams have finished in the first division of the Big Ten for seven of the last 10 years. Eddy is the latest on a growing list of veterans who have left the college basketball coaching ranks recently. Included on the list is Branch McCracken of Indiana, Purdue's traditional rival.
