"We were experimenting," said Assistant Coach Dave Martin. "Of course we were disappointed, but we're preparing for the Big Ten Indoor Meet and we've been trying many different combinations." No official tabulations were kept in the meet, considered the opener for the indoor season in the Midwest, but it was apparent ghat Michigan did not finish a. well as expected. Strong showings were made by men recently added to the squad, and this, coupled with the juggling done by the coaches, indicates that things weren't as bad as they seemed. The 60-yd. dash featured one of the many surprises of the night. Carl Ward, a halfback on the football team, came up with a fine second-place finish, as favored Dorie Reid fell to fifth. "I got caught in the blocks," Dorie said, "and couldn't make up the lost ground," The event was won with a time of 0:6.2,which Reid had equalled in qualifying for the finals.
