PAGE FOUR THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, AUGUST 11.1966 - - _.. _.., r. . , Tiger Boss Dressen Dies of Heart Attack For Direct Classified Ad Service, Phone 764-0557 Monday through Friday, 12 Noon to 2 P.M. -By The Associated Press DETROIT - Charlie Dressen, manager of two pennant winning baseball teams at Brooklyn in the early 1950s, and most recently manager of the Detroit Tigers, died yesterday in Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital. Tiger officials said the hospital had informed them that Dressen, who would have been 68 next Monday, died at 10:30 a.n. of a cardiac arrest. Bob Swift took over as acting manager, then was himself put out of action by cancer of the lung. Best Team in Years Dressen, who took over from Bob Scheffing during the 1963 season while the club was in ninth place, was in the midst of mold- ing what was perhaps his best team since the pennant winners of Brooklyn in 1952 and 1953 when he suffered his first heart attack during spring training in 1965- He quit Brooklyn after the 1953, season when Walter O'Malley, Dodger owner, refused to give him a two-year contract, Part of Dressen's daily ritual after his heart attacks were long walks. 4i CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING RATES LINES 1iDAY 3 DAYS 6DAYS 2 .70 1.95 3.45 3 .85 2.40 4.20 4 1.00 2.85 4.95 Figure 5 aoverage words to a line. } Clossified deadline, 2:30 doily., Phone 764-0557 FOR RENT 2 OR 3 MAN APTS. for fall, modern, furnished, air cond., one bdrm, spa- cious living rm. kit. $175/per mo.
