Dick Stuart, who started his major league career with the Pi- rates, started the ninth with a walk, only the second Tommie Sisk allowed in the game. Rose- boro then drove a pitch against the foul pole in right field, snap- ping a 1-1 tie. After Jim Lefebvre singled onel out later, Roy Face replaced Sisk, and Gilliam hit his first homer of the season into the upper right field stands. Phil Regan, who gained the vic-, tory in relief as the Dodgers moved into first place Sunday, pitched the last two innings and picked up his 10th triumph against one defeat. Giants Whip Mets NEW YORK-Bob Priddy pitch- ed eight innings of scoreless relief and the San Francisco Giants bunched six hits in one inning for three runs, whipping the New York Mets 4-2 last night. The Mets had nicked Giant starter Joe Gibbon for two runs' and had the bases loaded withI none out in the second when Priddy came on. He struck out pitcher Bob Friend and got Ron Hunt to hit into a double play. The Giants grabbed the lead in the fourth when they bunched two doubles and four singles off Friend. Willie McCovey and Willie Mays lined consecutive doubles with one out. Then Mays, attempt- ing to steal third, was safe when Ken Boyer dropped Jerry Grote's throw. Four straight singles by Jim Hart, Tom Haller, Ollie Brown and Hal Lanier produced two more runs. Haller's hit was the only one of the four out of the infield. Twins Blast Sox MINNEAPOLIS - ST. PAUL - Jimmie Hall drove in four runs with a pair of home runs, spark- ing Minnesota to a 6-2 victory over Boston last night. Hall's two-run blows in the third and fifth innings staked the Twins to a 4-0 lead. Boston's Tony Conigliaro hit a, two-run homer for the Red Sox in the sixth, trimming the Twins' lead to 4-2, but Minnesota's Earl Battey matched that with a two- run blast in the bottom of the sixth. Jim (Mudcat) Grant rode the three-homer barrage by the Twins to his seventh victory against 121 defeats. The loser was former Twin pitcher Lee Stange, now 3-6. * * * Phils Nip Astros PHILADELPHIA - Rich Allen whacked an inside-the-park home run leading off the 10th inning, giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 6-5 victory over Houston last night. Allen's shot hit the center field wall 415 feet from home plate. Jim Wynn, the Astros' center fielder, crashed against the wall attempting to make the catch and crumpled to the ground, appar- I a I i PERSONAL ently unconscious. Players from both teams raced SPORTS SHORTS: Pistons Lose Darden, Two Other Draft Picks to the injured player after Allen crossed home plate. Wynn then was carried off the field on a stretcher but there was no indi- cation as to how seriously he was injured, The Astros tied the game in the ninth when Chuck Harrison ard Lee Maye singled against starter Ray Culp. Larry Jackson relieved and Bob Aspromonte cracked a three-run homer. Reds Club Cards ST. LOUIS - Left-hander Jim O'Toole and four relief pitchers held St. Louis to three hits as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cardi- nals 3-2 last night. O'Toole gave up three hits in 52'3 innings, departing in the sixth after the Cardinals scored one rUn on Julian Javier's triple, Curt Flood's single and a walk. Reliever Jack Baldschun walked two men to force in another run, but Ted Davidson got the third out. The Reds scored one run in the third on Tommy Harper's single and Pete Rose's triple.
