PAGE FOUR THE MICHIGAN DAILY CArPTTR"AV YTTiv a in,-^ _ o - S.ATUHIMY, JULY 9,1966 i Rodgers Leads Open As Nicklaus Falters For Direct Classified Ad Service, Phone 764-0557 Monday through Friday, 12 Noon to 2 P.M. f MUIRFIELD, Scotland OP)-Phil Rodgers of La Jolla, Calif., storm- ed home in only 30 shots yesterday in a remarkable comeback that en- abled him to seize the lead in the third round of the British Open Golf Championship while front- runner Jack Nicklaus crumbled on the back nine. Rodgers pieced together a weird 40-30 for a 70 and 210, three under par, At the same time Nicklaus, playing just behind him, blew a clear lead with a 36-39-75 that resembled at times a Sunday golf- er's game. It put him at 212, one under pas. Muirfield's 6,887 yard par 36- 35-71 links, which has tamed many a man, humbled most of the field of 64. Mil-America Football Game Tomorrow ATLANTA UP)-Jim Grabowski of Illinois and Donny Anderson of Texas Tech, two Green Bay rook- ies who reportedly cost the Pack- ers close to $1 million, will meet tomorrow night as rivals in the All-America football game at At- lanta Stadium. This game between star players from East and West, most of whom are signed by pro teams, is expected to attract a near-capa-' city crowd of 50,000 fans to the] new park where the Braves play baseball and the Falcons will play1 NFL football. After five years in Buffalo, N.Y., the American Foot- ball Coaches Association has moved the game South. ABC will beam the game in color over 202 stations, with game time at 8:30 p.m. EST. Grabowski will play for the un- derdog East team, coached by Duffy Daugherty of Michigan State. Anderson will share the West's] left halfback job with Mike Gar- rett of Southern California, the Heisman Award winner. Coach Tommy Prothro of UCLA has list- ed Garrett as his starter. Randy Johnson of A&I and Steve Sloan of Alabama, who will soon be fighting for the quarter- back job on the Atlanta Falcons, will be the opposing passers. John-] son will start for the West and Sloan for the East. Gary Lane of Missouri will also quarterback for the West. Nicklaus started the morning at 137, five under par, and after a par 36 on the front nine while Rodgers was taking 40 and the rest of the big challengers wereI dropping shots here and there, the husky from Columbus, Ohio, looked like a shoo-in. When the firing was over only Rodgers and Nicklaus were better than the 54 hole par of 213, Doug Sanders, Ojai, Calif., shot a 37-35-72 for 213. Arnold Palmer of Latrobe, Pa., served notice he' was around again with a fine 37- 32-69 for 214 along with Dave Thomas of Wales. Harold Henning of South Africa had a 75 for 215. Bracketed at 216 were Kal Nagle of Australia, who soared to a 76; Bruce Devlin of Australia with a 74; Sebastian Miguel of Spain with a good 70; Alex Caygill. England, with 73 and Ronnie Shade, Scot- land's amateur champion, with a 75. Major League Standings AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR RENT! APARTMENTS FOR FALL Efficiencies, 1, 2 & 3 Bedrooms.
