T, MAY 20, 1961 THE MICHIGAN DAILY .. Pennsylvania To Replace Credit Plan PHILADELPHIA (UPS) - Be- ginning next semester on the graduate level, and with the 1962- 63 academic year on the under- graduate level, a -new course cred- it system will be instituted at the University of Pennsylvania to re- place the present semester credit system. Under the new program, the graduation requirement will be 40 courses instead of the present 126 semester credits. Every student will take five courses, and each course will be equivalent to the present three-credit course. The work load of two credit courses will be increased to, the level of the present three credit course, and present four credit courses will be similarly adjusted. The new program will decrease the number of courses required for doctoral degrees from 27 to 20, and the student will take four courses per semester rather than the pres- ent six. According to Prof. Allan G. Chester, chairman of the college instruction committee, the new system will decrease the number of courses required for various de- grees offered at Pennsylvania.
