In the backfield are Sandy Ste- phens, Minnesota; Ernie Davis,; Syracuse; James Saxton, Texas; and Bob Ferguson, Ohio State. Merlin Olsen of Utah State at 265, playing tackle, is the biggest member of the forward wall that includes Jerry Hillebrand, Colo- rado, and Bill Miller, Miami of Florida, ends; Bill Neighbors, A bama, taaJkle; Roy Winston, La siana State and Dave Behrm Michigan State, guards; and A Kroll, Rutgers, center. Ferguson, meeting the toug est kind of competition in1 Big Ten, made 938 yards in carries for a 46 average, a scored 11 touchdowns. Termed by Coach Murray Warmath, "the best two way quarterback in the country," Stephens gets most of the credit for sending Minnesota to the Rose Bowl. His big day was in Minne- sota's 23-20 victory over Michigan when he set a school record for offense with 304 yards, including a 63 yards touchdown run, and a 46 yard touchdown pass and then at game's end kiiocked down one pass with the receiver in the clear near the goal, and finally inter- cepted a pass on his two. The small man on the forward wall is Miller-192 pounds and 6-2. He makes up in agility and drive for what he lacks in power. This season he caught 43 passes for 640 yards and two touchdowns, and in his career he snagged 102 for 1,448 and eight touchdowns, all Miami records.
