.7 18 THE MIHIGAN D~AILY PAI MEHA VILLAGE: Plan Community for Retired Teachers By BARBARA LAZARUS MehA Village, a planned retire- ment community to provide ideal conditions for those who have served as teachers in the state of Michigan, is expected to open in Y the fall of 1965. The Board of Governors of the Michigan Education Home Asso- ciation, a private, non-profit group affiliated with the Michi- gan Education' Association, has been working on this project. t Large Size A large site of land located just outside of Ann Arbor has been purchased. This-location will allow residents to take full advantage of the educational and cultural opportunities of Ann Arbor and Detroit, as well as the services of the University Hospital. The original plan of Meha Vil- lage is for 500 persons, but it may be expanded to include some 1500. The residents will have a similar background, and, there will be a composite of interests. There are several types of ac- commodations available to mem- bers. Facilities for fishing, swimming, professional meetings in several auditoriums and social activities such as danc- ing and games will be available. Residents may also take partain the maintenance of the hotel ac- tivities. They may help in the kitchen, serve as secretaries in the administration offices, or su- pervise the many activities offered to the guests. Several dining rooms will offer a varied menu with at least a tri- ple serving at each course. Gra- cious dining, is planned with a choice of smaller dining rooms with different decors. Drawing Pensions Any person who is an M.E.A. member, and is drawing a pension from the Michigan Public School Employee's Retirement Fund, or any other private school or higher education employee who qualifies is eligible. Three fees--founders, medical and security-plus a small monthly rental rate will cover all living expenses, lodging, meals and com- plete medical care. The founders fee will be $350, and if the person does not enter the residence this will be consid- ered a charitable gift. While re- siding at Meha Village, the resi- dent will pay a monthly fee of half his social security. Ann Arbor Treasurer Leaves Post City Treasurer LeRoy H. Stod- dard has resigned from his position for health reasons. His resignation will become ef- fective Jan. 1, following 13 years of service. Robert E. Gross, assistant to the superintendent o the utilities department, will succeed Stoddard. According to City Adminisrator Guy C. Larcom, Gross, who has worked for the city for 15 years, has always been willing to accept "extra responsibilities and duties. Other city council business Mon- day night included the replace- ment of Prof. John C. Kohl of the engineering college by Prof. Donald N. Cortright of the civil engineering department on the Citizens Advisory Board on Off Street Parking. Prof. Cortright will serve on the committee until Prof. Kohl's return from a leave of absence. ID Cardsr Replacements for identifica- tion cards have been made for all those students who enrolled last spring and whose ID cards have given names printed be- fore the family name. For example, if the ID card says Mary Smith it must be ex- changed for a new ID card saying Smith, Mary. , Exchange may be made Dec. 11-14 from 8:30-12 a.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m. in Rm. 1510 Administration Bldg. There will be no charge for the exchange. Students must pick up these new cards in order to register for the spring semester or else they will have to pick them up during registration. Plan Ski Weekend At Snow Valley The Union and Women's League Ski Weekend will be held Feb. 2-4 at Snow Valley in Gaylord. Tickets will be on sale Jan. 4-10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the main floor of the Union. Reservations are available for 150 students.
