11, 1961 THE MICHIGAN DAILY . ... . LANGUAGE SECTIONS: Letter To Protest Curtailment For Direct Classified Ad Service, Phone NO 2-4786 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Monday through Fridayand Saturday 9:30'till 11:30A.M. i By PHILIP SUTIN The Graduate Student Council approved a letter at its Thursday night meeting protesting the cur- tailment of language classes for graduate"students. The letter urged that the lit- erary college take four measures to increase the number of sec- tions of Frencn and German 111 and, 112 which graduate students take to meet degree requirements. The college, the 'letter said, should offer the same number of sections in the 111 level courses as it did last year, and restore a sufficient number of 112 sections to service students who need them The letter asked that additional sections be offered this spring to compensate for the present cur- tailment of the courses and that an adequate number be available on a permanent basis. The letter will be sent to Vice- President and Dean of Faculties Marvin L. Niehuss, Ralph A. Saw- yer Vice-President in charge of Research and dean of the graduate school, Roger W. Heynes, dean of the literary college, Prof. James C. O'Neil, chairman of the depart- ment of Romance languages, Prof. Clarence K. Pott, chairman of the German department, and Mrs. Leta J. Lewis, the graduate school's Ronald Savoy, chairman of the committee that drafted the let- ter, said that it especially urged the continuation of the courses. They were set up originally as a service to graduate students and with budget cuts the language de- partments may wish to abolish them, he added. r In other action the Council voted to establish a bulletin which would list the various colloquia and seminars presented each month. The items would be turned in to Robert Rosin, Grad., by the twenty-fifth of each month, mim- eographed, and placed on various departmental bulletin boards. . E RSONALS CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING w -.
