J. i ti - I By JUDITH OPPENHEIM In addition to the committees in its newly reorganized adminis- trative wing, Student Government Council has 10 semi-autonomous related boards. The related boards are those groups outside the area of the ad wing, but individually respon- sible to SOC. They are the par- ticular concern of the executive vice-president. The Committee on Membership in student organizations is likely to be the most active and in- portant semi-autonomous board during this school year. Investigates Violation Its purpose is the initiation of investigation and inquiry of any group as to its possible violation of the membership selection regu- lation. The committee also makes rec- ommendations to SGC for cor- rective and disciplinary action against student organizations which fail to comply or show' good faith with the membership selection regulation. The regulation on membership stipulates that no University or- ganization may discriminate against a person seeking admis- sion on grounds of race, religion creed or family origin. Cinema Guild The SGC Cinema Guild Board was established in 1955. Its pur- pose is to present to the Univer- sity community high quality films. at reasonable prices and provide to recognized campus organiza- tions an opportunity to sponsor films and receive a portion -of the profits. Cinema Guild films are shown in the architecture auditorium. for an admission price of 50 cents. Most of the films, selected by the board, are popular reruns and art. and foreign-films. Human Relations The Human Relations, board considers cases andareas; involv-_ ing discrimination against stu- dents in the University community, or Ann Arbor. Its goal is to work. in a positive manner-to encourage better human relations in the Uni- versity and Ann Arbor community. The International Relations committee was established in Jan- uary. Its purpose is to aid and advise existing programs and to develop new programs to increase person to person and small group contact between American and foreign students and to counteract or eliminate barriers to this con- tact. Ad Board The Student Activities Build- ing Administrative Board, better known as SAB-AB, is responsible for the administrative and mana- gerial tasks of the second floor rooms in the Student Activities Building. The four member scholarship board awards funds to enable de- serving students to participate in campus activities when financial need might otherwise prohibit them from doing so. The Student Relations Board acquaints the student body with the activities of the University, Development Council. It works with the University alumni and alumnae clubs in de- veloping programs which encour- age greater student participation in their home localities. Wolverine Club The Wolverine Club works to develop the spirit of the Univer- sity's student body and main- tain the spirit by providing var- ious University services such as the Block M flash-card section for football games, pep rallies, and special trips to athletic, meets at other' schools. The Reading and Discussion Committee, established as a semi- autonomous board plans and ad- ministers the. summer Reading and Discussion programs- and all other programs along similar lines which: the committee considers educationally valuable and admin- istratively feasible. The Student Book Exchange acts as an exchange medium for students selling and buying used text books. The SBX appraises the books and runs the student bookstore. in the basement of the SAB. 'A Welcome to0MICHIGAN'S PEP RALLY-An autonomous organization operating under Stu- dent Government Council is the Wolverine Club which sponsors football pep rallies like this one held last fall at Homecoming. k /I II 4 / We'd like to show you our exciting kill shoes by CAMPUS " 0 0 'p/I I ,JW TWO FOR THE SHOW-Cinema Guild provides quality motion pictures that have received some fame in the movie world.
