Adopted: (Unanimous) That Student Government Council send the follow- ing telegram to Attorney General Rob- ert Kennedy: On Wednesday, October 11, former Michigan Daily Editor Tom Hayden and, United States National Student Association National -Affairs Vice-Pres- ldent Paul Potter were beaten by a mob in McComb, Mississippi. This lat- est act is typical of the lawlessness and violence in McComb in the past weeks. Local law enforcAment authori- ties no longer maintain order. - Student Government Council of the University of Michigan strongly urges that the federal government take im- mediate action within its power to restore law and order in McComb. Received: Report from delegates to Office of Student Affairs Study Com- mittee. Adopted: That Student Government Coincil go on record as voicing its ap- proval of the confidential reports of the educational staff of the Quadrangle system in their present form. The Council recommends, however, that these reports be used only for the express purpose of readmitting students to the residence halls, and urges that these reports be destroyed after this purpose has been fulfilled. That the existence of these reports and their nature be made known to the Quadrangle residents. , Adopted: That the President of Stu- dent Government Council on behalf of the- Council send a letter to all fra- ternities and sororities that have not yet submitted to the Office of Stu-' dent Affairs required statements in- terpreting their membership selection data and compliance with the regula- tion on membership selection. That such letter state the following: 1) The regulation as passed by the Council. 2) That the Committee on Member- ship in Student Organizations has ask- ed both in a letter to the Council and in discussion with the Council that the Council set a time limit of De- cember 1, after which groups which had not submitted the required state- ments would be penalized. 3) That the Council recognizes that the Committee urgently needs these statements if it is to proceed promptly and equitably. 4) That the Council feels it is to the advantage of the groups in question to clarify their positions and dispel in- accurate images of their membership selection policies by submitting state- ments. 5) That the Council hopes and as- sumes that the groups involved will soon submit the required statements )n their own initiative. 6) That the Council does not with to set a time limit and disciplinary penalties but feels it will be forced to do so if the statements are not submitted within a reasonable period. 7). That the Council is temporarily postponing action on the Committee's request in the hope that the required statements will soon be submitted in 'ood faith.- Adopted: To communicate the fol- towing message to the President of the University and the Vice-President for Student Affairs: Student Government Council notes with special interest and concern the. decision of the Regents of the Uni- versity in approving the report of the Committee on Year Round Integrated Operation of the University. The Council realizes there are many broad implications which this plan has for the University's future, and that such a plan as was forwarded to the Regents for approval must necessarily be followed by intensive "staff studies" into the implementation of this plan. Student Government Council, as the official' organ for expression of the opinion of students of the University, desires to participate in such "staff studies" as are being onducted or contemplated, since the stuudent opin- ion and student support are vital to the ultimate success of s uch an en- deavor. The Council therefore bequests de- tailed information as to the ranner in which studies are biping conducted, and suggestions as to tang -way in which the Council can organtzes itself so as to integrate the opinio s of the stu- dents with the implenusol'ation of the plan. Adopted: That Student Government Council add to its Operating Proce- dures, the following: IV.
