This sweater with a low in- dented V, has been gaining favor in recent years as the crew neck- ed sweater recedes in popularity. Solid colors are in fashion with marbled sweaters adding variety ot the single-colored solid. A marbled colored sweater has flecks of other colors in it to give it more versatility, a local salesman Cotton Suede Makes Scene At TGIFs, Football Games explained. Blues and greens were noted as the favorite sweater colors, but one store reported increased sales of the louder reds and oranges. Bulky sweaters are considered impractical for classroom wear, but some students prefer light- weight bulky looking sweaters. Cardigans have maintained a steady popularity without much variation in recent years, the , SWEATERS U.S.A.-College campuses this fall will reverberate with the whistles of happy co-eds. Style-conscious men will soon outdo the ladies in the sweater craze. Scandinavian, Italian, Brit- ish, and American sweater-makers are busy at their looms to supply these youthful men. The pants, which may be worn' with suspenders and a tyrolian hat, have been known to last as long as 20 years.. They can withstand grease, oil, beer and food stains excellently. In fact, in certain parts of 'Eu- rope and the University, the own- er's distinction will rest on the number and variety of stains on his or her lederhosen. They have proved to be a real souvenir boon to the American student in Europe as they are much more durable than beer mugs from Munich. Lederhosen are not sold in American stores, and only those who have gone to Europe and bought a pair can wear these sturdy and comfortable pants. Leiderhosen are especially use- ful for camping, hiking and other such summer excursions into nature. clothiers report. Like the popularity of cardi- gans, prices have not changed ap- preciably in this length of time. In the ranks of bulky sweaters, the hand-knitted ski pullover has gained immense popularity in the last few years. Featuring bright designs characteristic of the Scan- dinavian countries, thesesweaters prpvide warmth and comfort. They are, however, fairly expensive. For those who cannot afford the genuine article, there are com- panies who machine-knit copies of these bulky sweaters. Men's coat sweaters, with zipper fronts, take the place of a light- weight jacket during the fall sea- son. They may be bought in a variety of color combinations and designs. Pointed toes, occasionally seen in recent years, have now all but disappeared. White tennis shoes are still pop- ular for casual campus wear and the so-called suede "hush pup- pies" are also worn for informal occasions. For formal wear, black or dark brown shoes are the customary dress. White socks, acceptable with tennis shoes and for casual wear, are definitely not acceptable for formal wear. With more formal at- tire, solid color socks complete the outfit. One interesting thing is a large decline in galoshes from the cam- WELCOME pus scene as umbrellas gain in . European iniovation popularity. By DENISE WACKER The football season has finally arrived and with it the problem of what to wear to the games. N Men will be pleased to learn that' culottes are back this year, along with the new knee ticklers and stadium skirts. Culottes, come in plaids or solids, while the skirts are almost always plaids with matching sweaters. They are not very high priced (usually well under $10 for culottes or skirts) and' may be worn during the winter and early spring months. Suede Popular Suede is quite popular for both: men's and women's fashions. The fabric is more often than not "cotton suede" rather than the more traditional leather and is thus easier to care for although_ less warm. It is being used in jackets, car coats, full-length coats, as well as skirts and slacks for women.- There has been a shift from co- ordinating only skirts and sweaters, to coordinating external clothing t-ecause overclothing 'is usually seen at a football game more often than one's other clothes. Stadium Wear Matching suede,, jackets and slacks (ranging from about $17 for jacket to eight to $15 for slacks) can be worn as separates, and therefore would appear to be good as football wear because of warmth, practicality and style. For men, suede-front jackets' with knitted backs are being' shown in many stores. They cost approximately $35 and reveal to some extent the influence of Euro- pean desigiers in American men's wear. Also popular for men are lami- nated Jersey jackets with or with- out knitted backs, which sell for about $21. These jackets are made of nylon and polyesther foam, and are extremely warm. Alpaca jackets and coats, pri- marily of camel color, have zip- in lining for additional warmth, and are suitable for casula or more dressy wear. For women, sweaters have be- come much longer than last year and have been referred to as "coat- type sweaters" because of their 17 to 20 inch length. Slickers, which sometimes must be taken to football games, have become more feminine than ever before. There is a decidedly new look -and colors are brighter than they have been in the past. Slick- ers should cost about six dollars, but in Ann Arbor, due to the dif- ficulty of transportation, they run about $10. New Hues There are, of course, many new colors this year. Many of them have a purple- or majenta tinge. Among these are olive green, emerald, electric, blue, peacock and orange. Men's fashions feature grey, green and some pastels. Button-downs are quite popular this year and may be found in either the pullover style or more conventional button-down shirt. For men, cotton hopsack is one of the biggest fabrics in shirts and costs between five' and seven dollars.
