By MALINDA BERRY This year's Creative Arts Festival has offered student produc- tions, faculty symposiums, guest star appearances, and five concerts, all sponsored by the Michigan Union. Creative Arts Week for Michigan was declared by Gov. John B.. Swainson to coincide with the Festival because "it is opportune that the University each year stages a Creative Arts Festival to serve as a showcase for some of Michigan's cultural activities:" Prof. John Frederick Nims of the University of Illinois opened the Festival with a reading of his own poetry, while on March 21 Prof. Donald Hall, Prof. X. J. Kennedy, and Prof. James R. Squires of the English department presented a reading of their own'works. The Stanley Quartet gave a concert on Monday, Mrs. Masha Tees- ing presented a violin recital on Tuesday, and the final event in the Festival vas a concert by the American Ballet Theatre sponsored by the University Musical Society last night. On March 18 Interfraternity Council and Vulcans presented the "Sounds from the Summit" which featured six collegiate singing groups: the Arbors and the Friars fron the University, the Trinidads from Trinity Colflege,. the D.Q. from Amherst, the Cayuga Waiters from Cornell, and the Quintones from Wayne State University. The film the "Idea of Michigan" was shown twice during the Festival on March 19. The film was produced by the Television Center last year. University Players gave four performances of Graham Greene's "The Living Room," March 21-24. The University Folklore Society presented John Lee Hooker, blues singer and guitarist March 22.
