MARCH 17, 1964 , THE MICHIGAN DAILY MARCH 17, 1964 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Team Effort Sparks Winning Cagers Advance Better get a new Michigan Sweatshirt By CHARLIE TOWLE <.> It takes five men and more to make a winning basketball team as Michigan amply proved last weekend at Minneapolis. While Bill Buntin and Cazzie Russell did most of the job match- ing the scorers and rebounders of Loyola (Ill.) and Ohio University as Michigan ran their season rec- ord to 22-4, it was the other mem- bers of the Wolverine b-ball squad who gave Michigan the winning margin. In the first game against Loyola, .which Michigan wcon 84-80, the difference in the game was Larry Tregoning. 'Trigger' snapped off 14 rebounds and scored an equal Kansas City Tickets About 200 tickets for the NCAA basketball tournament in Kansas City, Mo., are on sale all day today at the Athletic Administration Bldg. The seats are $14 for all semi-finals and finals and must be purchased today before 4:30 p.m. The limit is two per person and the $14 buys a scrip ticket which entitles the owner to ex- change it for a guaranteed seat in the Michigan section at the Kansas City Municipal Audi- torium. Proud Coach t Coach , Dave Strack had high praise for the Ferndale junior aft- er the game. "Tregoning played a heck of a game for us," he said in the jubilant dressing room after the Friday night contest. Tregoning, besides his fine scor- ing and rebounding made the key play of the game on a steal of the ball from Loyola's Les Hunter that denied Loyola any chance of send- ing the game into overtime. Saturday night against Ohio University Tregoning was not up to his level of Fi'day evening but Jim Myers and George Pomey .. were ready to take up the slack. Myers: suffered a seeming lapse in his confidence when he hit a cold shooting streak simultaneous with the opening of the Big Ten bas- ketball season. "Myers helped us a great deal tonight. He had been in a little slump for the last part of the season, but he came through for us tonight," said Strack. Both Jim Snyder of Ohio U. and' George Ireland had praise for the: Michigan team. Win Some, Lose Some "Well, somebody had to lose," said the philosophical . Ireland. "We lost to a good team. There isa no disgrace in losing to Michigan. I hope we lost to the next na- tional champions." Snyder lauded Michigan for a? facet of their game which Satur- day night seemed least to deserve the attention. "We knew that they were going to hurt us on the boards," said Snyder. We were overly cautious on our shots and we just didn't shoot well enough. This could be due to the overpowering rebound- ing of Michigan," he added. Mich- igan only outrebounded Ohio U. 36 to 33, and at halftime the Bob- cats from Athens, Ohio were lead- ing the Wolverines 23 snares to 21. Snyder also had praise for Rus- sell and Buntin. "Russell is a great ballplayer. I think he was ONE OF FOUR--Michigan's O the difference in the outcome of Haley of Ohio University for th tonight's game. Buntin is a demon, foul in the process. (not Kansas). Various groups have organized, and it looks like only those who are unwilling to give up a few days in Daytona Beach aren't planning to trek to the NCAA finals. There's only one problem. The usual one-tickets. Michigan's ticket manager, Don Weir, whose primary concern is as usual the students, announced yesterday that he still has a lim- ited supply of the original 500 seats allotted to the University. These tickets which are on sale only until 4.30 this afternoon sell for $14 and entitle the purchaser to exchange the scrip coupon for a reserved seat in the Michigan sec- tion of the Municipal Auditorium. The Michigan bloc, like those of Kansas State.and Duke (oh, yes, UCLA's there too) is guaranteed to be between midcourt and the basket, so the $7 per night-both games both nights-is understand- able. Today is absolutely the only chance to buy the tickets, as Weir is committed to return any of the unused ones to the NCAA this aft- ernoon. The chances of getting others in Kansas City are really slim. The Kansas Statestudents gulped all their allotted ducats and are begging for more, and it is already an acknowledged sellout in Kansas pity. Numerous groups have been 6r- ganized since the Wolverines did the trick in Minneapolis last week- end. One, a package deal, is being run by avid Ann Arbor sports fan Howard Wikel. It includes round- trip jet connections, hotel accom- modations for two nights, and tickets in the Michigan bloc. Any- one who is interested in the plane- package plan should call either! Wikel, care of the drug store, or Weir as soon as possible. Michigan will be facing the Duke Blue Devils in one of the semifinal contests Friday night while the UCLA Bruins will pit' their undefeated season against the cinderella team, Kansas State, in the other game.
