Michigan may well have ar'ti-
ficial Tartan Turf in the football
stadium and on one of the prac-
tice areas at Fa;T ield by this
fall.
The Intranural Advisory Board
unanimously alplroved this idea
at their meeting yesterday and
the proposal needs only approval
by the Board in Control of Inter-
collegiate Athletics to become a

The Ferry Field practice area
would be available for clubs and
intramurals at all times except
when the football team is prac-
ticing on it. The rugby, lacrosse
and soccer teams would also be
able to use the stadium for their
games except when there is a
football game going on.
The Club Sports members of the
Board, who have long agitated for
better playing areas. were very
enthustiac about the plan. They
felt that the improved facilities
would increase interest in their
sports and reduce the rash of in-
juries that have plagued the
teams, especially the rugby squad.
Canham also noted that the few
surveys that have been done to
date all show a "dramatic" re-
duction in football injuries on an
artificial playing surface.

f' The report was tabled in the
C Commons by Health Vlinister
Munro.
In Montreal, Clarence Compbell,
president of the NHL said he is
withholding immediate comment.
The NHL president said he has
scheduled a news conference for
10 a.m., EDT, this morning to
state the league's point of view on
the report.
Of the controversial reserve
claim~, lMhnro said this was "an
area the government must look
at."
He said any government action
concerning the clause could have
"implications which may flow
across the border," adding, "It
is too early to say what my rec-
ommendations on this will be."
Under questioning, the minister
said some of the features of NHL
contracts "are obviously repug-
nant to anyone" and were not "in
keeping with the sense of fairness
we have come to expect in other
areas."
