Monday through Friday, 10:00 to 3:00

By The Associated Press
DETROIT - Sam McDowell
hurled a four hitter and Ken Har-
relson hit a grand-slam homer in
a six run third inning that car-
ried Cleveland to an 8-1 victory
over the Detroit Tigers last night.
McDowell, 11-4, struck out six,
increasing his American League
leading total to 141.
The Indians, blanked for the
first two innings by starter Joe
Sparma pushed across a pair of1
runs on an error by first baseman
Bill Freehan, Zoilo Versalles' sin-
gle, McDowell's sacrifice fly and a
run scoring single by Jose Car-
dinal.,

MINNEAPOLIS - ST. PAUL -
Hammering H a r m o n Killebrew
drove in four runs with his 26th
and 27th home runs and a double
as the Minnesota Twins drubbed
the Seattle Pilots 9-3 last night.

Ted Uhlaender also contributed
a two-run homer to the 12-hit
Twins' attack.
Killebrew, raising his major
league leading RBI total to 90,
belted a towering 396-fool two-
run homer in the first inning and
a 450-foot solo shot in the eighth,
giving him nine homers in the,
last 10 days.
Killebrew chased in another
run in the fifth after Tony Oliva
extended his hitting streak to 10
games with a triple.
Tom Hall, who hadn't pitched
in a month, scattered four Seattle
hits and evened his record at 4-4.
Gene Brabender, 7-6, yielded seven
runs and was the loser.

JOHN EDWARDS, HOUSTON ASTROS' catcher, finds himself suffering from a costly case of dropsy.
Cincinnati Red second baseman Jim Stewart knocked the ball loose and was able to score. Edwards
was aided in his troubles by shortstop Denis Menke. Menke's relay was wide of the plate, forcing Ed-
wards to stretch into a'vulnerable position. The run didn't matter much, though, as Houston romp-
ed, 13x2.

Rumors fly:
Namath still
in retirem ent
NEW YORK (01) - Pro football
circles were stirred last night by
a report that Joe Namath, the
retired quarterback hero of the
Super Bowl, had changed his
mind and would report to the
New York Jets' training camp at
Hempstead, N.Y., Sunday.
However, a spokesman for
Commissioner Pete Rozelle, de-
clared "There is no change in the
situation at all. He is still retired.
We have had no indication that
he has changed his mind."
Namath was unavailable for
comment at Corona, Calif., where
he is completing a movie.
Phil Iselin, president- of the
Jets, said he knew nothing about
the report. Neither did coach
Weeb Eubank.
Namath announced his retire-
ment early in June rather than
sell his interest in Bachelors III,
a New York bar. Rozelle had or--
dered Namath to sell or face sus-
pension because 'of the undesire-
ables who frequented the spot.
Rozelle and Namath met several
weeks ago in an attempt to re-
solve the situation. Notling was
decided.
