Tartan Turf now{ has Regental approval and will be installed in time for next fall's games. The action came as no surprise to anyone. ' Athletic Director Don Canham first unveiled his plans for instal- lation of Tartan Turf at a mid- May meeting of the Intramural Advisory Board. At the meeting, the board agreed to paX $300,000 for installation of Tartan turf on apractice area on Ferry F i e 1 d while the Athletic Department would pay approximately $250,000 for the turf in the stadium. Canham has called synthetic turf "the wave of the future." Sev- eral schools have already installed artificial carpets on their playing fields and many more are plan- ning to have them dpwn by fall. Ten- nessee, Alabama and Washington have all used synthetic turf and have been satisfied with the re- sults-.
