MAJOR LEAGL Rangers deal Howell, Goyette;9 P lose Short for season By The Associated Press 0 MONTREAL - The New York Rangers of the National HockeyI League sold defenseman Harry Howell to Oakland yesterday for an undisclosed amount of cash and traded center Phil Goyette to St. - Louis for a first round pick in tomorrow's amateur draft. Howell, 36, played 17 full seasons with New York, appearing in1 more games, 1,160, with the Rangers than anyone in the club's history. He underwent spinal fusion surgery in April after playing in 56 games in 1968-69 and totaling 11 points on four goals and seven assists. The greying veteran won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top de- fenseman in 1966-67. Goyette, 35, a 13-year NHL standout with Montreal and New York, tallied 13 goals and 32 assists for 45 points in 67 games last sea- son. He twice led the Rangers in scoring, in 1964-65 and three yearsI later. PHILADELPHIA - Pitcher Chris Short of the Philadelphia Phillies will undergo surgery here this week and will be out for the remainder of the season, a spokesman for the National Baseball League Club said today. A club spokesman said the 31-year-old lefthander who led the team with a 19-13 record last season would enter Temple University Hospital tomorrow or Friday for removal of a herniated disc in LINES I day 2 1.00 3 1.10 4 1.35 5 1.55 6 1.80 7 2.00 8 2.20 9 2.40 10 2.60 INCHES 1 2.60 2 4.90 3 6.95 4 8.90 5 10.70 2 days 1.60 2.15 2.60 3.00 3.40 3.75 4:15 4 55 4.95 4.95 9.50 13.50 17.3,5 21.10 3 days 2.35 3.10 3.75 4.35 4.95 5.50 6.10 6:65 7.15 7.15 13.80 19.75 25.55 31.40 4 days 3.00 4.05 4.05 4.65 6.35 7.20 7.90 9.70 10.30 10.30 17.85 25.50 33.45 41.40 5 days 3 65 4.85 5.90 6.90 7.85 8.85 975 10.65 11.35 11.35 21.75 31.15 40.95 51.15 6 dos 4.20 5.65 6.90 8.05 9.25 10.40 11.45 12:60 13.30 13.30 25.40 36.65 48.30- 60.50 odd. .60 .80 .95 1.15 1.30 1.45 1 .55 1 70 1.80 1.80 1.80 1.80 1.80 1.80 UNCONTRACTED CLASSIFIED RATES USED CARS VW BUS, 1964.
