Athletic Director Don Canham
announced yesterday that Jim
Hunt, for 21 years Michigan's
head athletic trainer, is retiring,
adding that' unt's departure
"takes from college athletics one
of the most capable and dedicated
trainers in the field."
Hunt plans to establish a pri-
vate practice in physical therapy,
but adds that it is "only one of
a number of possibilities.
"I also hope to work on some-
thing that I've been interested in
for a long time," he said. "That is
-getting trainers into high school
athletic programs. I've been work-
ing on it for 15 years or more.'
Hunt is also hoping to help es-
tablish a program for \the educa-
tion of athletic trainers at Michi-
gan, explaining that "it requires
a special type of training - or-
