F48 DETROIT (P)-Tom Matchick's two-run homer with two out in the ninth inning gave the Amer- ican League leading Detroit Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles last night. The rookie shortstop's second major league homer capped a three-run ninth innin$ comeback by the Tigers, who had been held to two hits by Wally Bunker and Eddie Watt over the first eight. After Jim Northrup led off the ninth with a single and Al Kaline walked, John O'Donoghue re- placed Watt and Norm Cash bunt'ed, into a force at second. 'Moe Drabowsky replaced O'Do- noghue and got Bill Freehan to hit into another force at second as Northrup scored. Matchick then slammed a 3-2 pitch into the upper right field seats, pinning the Oioles with their third straight setback. The victory boosted the Tigers' league lead to 1/2 games over idle Cleveland and left the third place Orioles 81/2 games back. Bunker held the Tigers hitless until the sixth, when Don Wert walked and Dick McAuliffe smacked a two-run homer. Watt came on at that point and limit- ed Detroit to a single by North- rup until the ninth. Frank Robinson put the Orioles ahead 2-0 in the third with a two-run homer off Mickey Lolich &, d they scored twice in the sixth on Brooks Robinson's double, a single by Dave Johnson, Paul Blair's sacrifice fly and a single by Don Buford. lve - Summit Assoc i ates 7s1-8055 Campus-i Block 1 Bedroom for 2 or 3 For information and Appointments call NO 8-6906 or 761-2943 C24 HOUSE AVAILABLE in Paris suburbs, preferably in exchange for Ann Arbor home for family of four beginning August '68. Assisting Loken will be national trampoline champion George Huntzicker, parallel bar special- ist Dick Richards, Sid Jensen, Fred Rodney, and George Vanis. Jensen and Rodney are expected to be members of the Canadian Olympic team, and Vanis is a graduate assistant to Loken. The five will provide demon- strations of basic techniques, throughout the week. "Gymnastics is not a well- known sport to most youngsters," says' Loken. "So ,we hope this, clinic creates a little interest among the boys. "Although it takes. certain physical attributes to be a suc- cessful gymnast, I, feel that any boy can benefit from the clinic, especially in preparation for other sports." Loken, head gymnastics coach for the past 21 years, has guided Michigan to seven Big Ten titles in the last eight years, in addition. to the NCAA championship in 1963. Chamberlain said the Philadel- phia 76ers' side of the story is "slightly tainted." "I understand it made me look ungrateful," Chamberlain said. "My side of the story is deserving to be heard." Chamberlain subsequently claimed: 0 The 76ers asked for his sug- gestion on a replacement for re- signed-' Coach Alex Bannum and later offered him the job as play- er-coach. 0 He didn't price himself out and force the 76ers to trade him because he never asked for a spe- cific figure. * Owner Irv Kosloff's proposal for a contract came out to less money that Chamberlain made last year. * Kosloff led him to believe he didn't want to x negotiate. Chamberlain also agreed with the theory that Kosloff "gave 'up" after two meetings during a 19- day period before the 76ers dealt with Chamberlain to the Lakers for Archie Clark, Darrall Imhoff and Jerry Chambers., The 76ers had said Chamber- lain, the game's greatest offensive player, was dealt because he asked St. Louis Atlanta Philadelphia xSan Francisco Cincinnati xChicago New York, Pittsburgh xLos Angeles xHouston x-Late game not W L Pct. 59 33 .641 50) 42 .543 46 43 .517 46 45 .505 44 45 .494 45 48 .484 44 50- .468 43 49 .467 42 50 .457 39 53 .424 included.
