Z MUSICAL MDSE., LUCIUS ALLEN LOS ANGELES t) - UCLA basketball star Lucius Allen was arrested Thursday night on a charge of possession of marijuana, and later the university said he had previously joined the National G u a r d and withdrawn from school. Allen, 20, guard on the Bruin's national championship basketball team, was arrested with four friends when police detected the odor of marijuana after halting their speeding car in an alley in central Los Angeles. A UCLA spokesman said Allen was going on active duty with the National Guard within a week. "We just found out about this," the spokesman said. "We are defi- nitely not counting on him to play for us next year." GILDED TRINKETS SAE stages rally, lists prizes A sports car rally will be held tomorrow by the student branch of the Society of Automotive En- gineers. - Doug Orrin, chairman of the group, made the announcement yesterday and revealed that an unprecedented treasury of prizes would be given to successfu teams. "The prizes have a total value of almost 1000 dol- lars-ten cases of oil, 24 trophies, shock absorbers, car models, flash- lights, tire gauges, racing jackets -everybody that enters will prob- ably win something." The starting point will bp at the Auto Lab on North Campus. "It's a great opportunity for people who have never seen a rally," concludes Orrin. "We hope everybody with a car that will run comes out." This includes a picnic supper at the rally's conclusion. Competition in the event will be divided into two classes, for both beginners and experienced rally teams. The course is special- ly laid out for inexperienced driv- ers, and complete instructions and explanatory material will be available at the start. Registration, for the all-day event will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a drivers' meeting scheduled for noon. The first car will be sent out at 12:30. The rally itself is expected to . . Martin, Alla L. When Allen was arrested last year, Coach John Wooden took no immediate action, saying it still was the off-season. "If he had been arrested during the season," Wooden said last year, "I would have taken im- mediate action. But because we're in the off-season, we'll have to wait." Allen was second high scorer for the Bruins in his sophomore season as the Bruins won the na- tional title. This year, when UCLA won its second straight title and fourth in five years, Allen, a junior, was named a second-team All-Ameri- can and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in this year's finals He was expected to be the only experienced guard on next year's Bruin team. The players said Thursday they waI t- ed such an audit. Kheel said the average player income in the NFL was $25,000, including pension benefits and pre-season pay, and actual salary averaged $22,500. Kheel said the owners had agreed to increase the minimum salary to $10,000 and to hold an All-Star game with the American Football League for the benefit of the pension plan as soon as possible, but not next season. The owners refused, however, to grant the Players Association request for $500 payment for play in exhibition games. Kheel said each player's contract was for the whole season, including preseason games. The owners also denied the Players Association's statement that there was a lockout against veteran players.
