TRACK Michigan's track team took a pair of trips over the break-to the Ohio State Relays and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia-and enjoyed the same successes they' have gained all spring. The Wolverine two-mile relay unit won its specialty in Colum- ous, then took on Harvard and Villanova in the East. Harvard, winner of the event in the NCAA indoor championships, had to set- tle for third, as Michigan and the 1Wildcats from Villanova made it It the two-mile run: The time gave Dolan third in Philadelphia. Another Michigan relay entry also bettered a varsity m11ark--the four-mile unit turned in a 16:59.4 performance, yet failed to place. Steve Bishop and Ken Coffin led the quartet with mile times of 4:12 flat and 4:13.9, respectively. Hurdler Larry Midlam, a placer in the national indoor meet, took third in the consolation finals of the highs with his 14.0 clocking. Clarence Martin, showing the form that carried him to the Big Ten outdoor title last spring, leaped 6'8" to win the consolation high jump. Gary Knickerbocker went 6'6" but failed to place in the championship division. Sophomore sprinter Sol Espie qualified for the finals of the 100- yard dash, but did not run in. the finals. Doug Nelson is hitting at a .349 pace, Elliott Maddox owns a .333 average, and John Arvai is hitting an even .300. Maddox has one of the two home runs recorded by Michigan batsman this spring.
