terlochen Arts Academy is an out-
growth of 33 years of highly suc-
cessful training of gifted young
people at the National Music
Camp in the summer. "We will
apply the same principles of com-
petitive educational achievement
in the winter."
The National Music Camp comes
under the sponsorship and direc-
tion of the University.
Officials at the offices of the
camp said that the school
is being financed through pri-
vate grants and assistance
from the National Music Camp.
They said the new school would
not fall directly under the direc-
tion of the University, but that it
would be connected indirectly.
Facilities Approved
The school will be accredited as
soon as possible, and officials
stated that the facilities have al-
ready been approved by the state.
Prof. Geraldine Scholl of the
education school commented that
"taking care of talented and gifted
children has been quite neglected,
and there doesn't seem to be a
state program planned in this
field in the foreseeable future."
