THEL MICHIGAN DAILY t To Aid Laos Premier Police Fire On Rioters In Belgium BRUSSELS (A - State police fired on 300 rioters in the big in- dustrial city of Liege yesterday, wounding 2. Two others were injured when the police answered a barrage of rocks by wading in with rifle butts. The rioting provided a jarring note on a day that saw most Bel- gian workers back on their jobs after 28 days of strikes against the government's austerity pro- gram. The back-to-work move- ment was on even in Liege and other parts of the industrial south. Attack Streetcars The demonstrators broke away from a peaceful meeting attended by 3,000 workers and began at- tacking trolley cars in the suburb of Chenee. The Socialist General Trade Union Federation claimed the strike remained total in Walloon in the industrial south. But checks showed the big metal plants of Walloon were almost back to normal, and railroad workers went back to their jobs. Work in coal mines still was limited, however. In the north, the industrial centers of Antwerp and Ghent re- ported a complete return to work and similar reports came from other areas outside Walloon. Plan Described A Socialist plan to solve the country's financial and economic difficulties and replace the gov- ernment sources as a rehash of the Socialist electoral program, with nothing new. Among other things, the Socialists propose to nationalize the coal mines. Senate committees will examine the austerity bill later this week. The Socialists objected to its pro- gram of higher taxes and curtailed social security spending. The bill has passed the House of Representatives. Passage is cer- tain in the Senate, where the gov- ernment majority is larger. "MYSTERY BASE"-A B-26 plane is parked on the runway of the Guatemalan "mystery base" a Retalhuleu. Guatemala has denied that the base is being used for any possible invasion of Cuba "There are no aggressive intentions in connection with the activities at Retalhuleu," the defens ministry has announced. "They are just routine activities of the Guatemalan army." A grou of bombs is stacked by the side of the runway next to a small wooden platform.
