Michigan lightning struck midway
through the 'second stanza. Wol-
verine goalie Dave Butts shut the
door and Lunghamer, Carl White
and Bill Kelly' each tallied within
a three minute span. Early in the
last period Al Hinnegan added one
for good measure. Final: 4-2.
Colorado Series
Held to a puny six-goal output
at Grand Forks, the Wolverines
found Coloriado College ice more
to their liking . .. at least in the
opener.
Michigan's Red Berenson had
been held to a lone assist at North
Dakota, but in the first CC game
redeemed himself by pacing Michi-
gan to a 10-5 route of the Tigers.
He gathered a pair of goals,
two assists and set up another by
checking a Tiger forward off the
puck, which Hinnegan then picked
up and drilled past one defense-
man and CC goalie Norm Laur-
ance.
The next night it was a different
story. -Butts allowed the same
number of goals in regulation time

as Coyle had the previous night,
but the Wolverines had to come
from behind with a last minute
goal by Kelly to even the score.
Tigers Win
Two minutes into the sudden
death overtime period, as Berenson
sat out a penalty, CC picked up
the win on a power play goal by
Doug Dill.
The overtime loss kept alive

a college goalie as Michigan fell
8-1. The little netminder drew
rounds of applause from the 4000-r
plus fans assembled and from the,
Colorado press for his efforts.
Denver outscored Michigan by a,
mere 2-1 margin in the final two
periods of the opener.
But, oh that first one!
Between the eight-minute and
15-minute marks, six Denver- goals,
were registered and the Wolverines
reeled under the onslaught.
Firing with uncanny accuracy,
31 Denver shots were directed at
Coyle and only four were off tar-
get. The rest were stopped by de-
fensemen, Coyle, or.
Continuing his season-long al-
ternation of Coyle and Butts, Ren-
frew sent sophomore Butts out
to face the big bad Pioneers in
the trip finale.-
And for the second night, the

Wolverines got a good performance
from their man in the nets. This
time a little forechecking by
Michigan paid off and the Wol-
verines carried a 2-1 lead into the
final period-an unheard of thing
on Denver's home ice.
But the travel-weary legs weak-
ened and three Pioneer goals
ment that a 4-2 win was a cer-
tainty, but with one second left,
Jerry Kolb drilled a shot past
Denver's All-American (and little-
tested) goalie George Kirkwood
to set the final at 4-3.

Michigan's dubious record of not
having won an overtime game in
the past three seasons, losing four
of five over that span and picking
up the one tie against North
Dakota.
In that second contest, Lung-
hamer injured an ankle, and the
team's leading road scorer was
sidelined for the pair against Den-
ver.
Going into Denver with a re-
spectable 2-1-1 record for the
trip, the Wolverines never expected
the blasting that they were to be
handed by the defending national
champions in the series opener.
Strange as it might sound, Coyle
played one of the best games as
