ager of the new Los Angeles An-
gels of the American Baseball
League and his first remarks were:
'Tm ready for work, and they
tell me there are things to do
around here."
The announcement was not
really a surprise. The ex-manager
of the San Francisco Giants had
been prominently mentioned the
past week.

BOSTON (M-A blustery bliz-
zard yesterday forced postpone-
ment of the selection of players
by the new Los Angeles and Wash-
ington teams in the American
League and brought about an ex-
tension of the inter-league trad-
ing deadline.
Officials of the two new clubs
were scheduled to meet with
American League President Joe
Cronin this morning to pick their
players from a pool made avail-
able from existing American
League teams.
But the wind-driven snowstorm
cancelled all air travel in and out
of Boston. Los Angeles officials
telephoned Cronin they wouldn't
be able to make it. The meeting
was postponed one day, until 10
a.m. (EST) Wednesday.
A little later, the League re-
ceived permission from baseball
Commissioner Ford Frick and the
National League to extend the in-
ter-league trading deadline until
midnight Friday. The , original
deadline was midnight Thursday.
A league spokesman explained
the deadline extension was an in-
direct result of the storm. Until
