lb NDREW HAWLEY rary college curriculum has approved a number s in the arrangement in the chemistry de- st important feature of anization, which Prof. Anderson, chairman of ment, calls "'the largest a number of years," oc- e two-semester organic sequence. of the two courses, one ,nd one four-hour, now being offered, there will be, begin- ning in February, two organic. chemistry courses of five hours each. Pre-medical students, in- stead of having in to take six hours of organic chemistry and four hours of qualitative analysis, will be required to take ten hours of organic chemistry. "But the new program will not change the total number of credit hours required of pre-medical and pre-dental students," Prof. Ander- son explained, "because at the same time we are discontinuing the course now required in quali- tative analysis." No Analytical The material covered presently in qualitative analysis will be divided between the general chem- istry course and a new courseIn analytical chemistry. A Course in analytical chemistry will no longer be prerequisite for the organic course. Prof. Anderson listed several reasons for the change. But most important, "too much work was required in the first half of the organic sequence," and similarly, "with the increase in types of material in analytic chemistry, it was impossible to give It all in the qualitative analysis course." The first six-hour organic course, now required for pre- medical students, will be offered this spring and summer. t their regular meeting last ht the Young Republican Club ited new officers for the com- year: Steven Stockmeyer, '63, sident; Garry McDaniel, '62, ,-president; Margaret Nixon, ,recording secretary; Susan aman, '62, corresponding sec- ary; Thoms Pyper, '64, treasur Donnelly Hadden, '81, David ers, '62, and Joseph Sinclair, members of the executive is ,trul y William E.
