State NO 3-2481 By ELLEN SILVERMAN "Man on the floor" is the battle cry of a small minority of men who find themselves constantly in enemy territory and consis- tantly fighting a losing battle. The troops in question are the male custodians who are faced with the task of keeping Mary Markley dormitory clean. Each day they are faced with a host of rooms, corridors, lounges and washrooms which must be cleaned. To every other male at the Uni- I1 versity, the thought of a girl re- treating to her fortified room dressed in "battle fatigues" of either pajamas or dainty, flowing "unmentionables" would be ap- pealing. To these battle scared hardy custodians, however, the occurance is everyday and "merely- in the line of duty." The reaction of the "enemy" is different to say the least. At the slightest indication that the men are approaching, doors are locked, corridors emptied and washrooms evacuated on the largest scale. The enemy retreats only to re- appear when the threat of In- vasion is over. The one consolation for these battle-worn troops are the smiles they receive in the elevators from the residents when the battle is over. And, the custodians say, the smiles of 1200 pretty girls are much better than either the Purple Heart or the Medal of Honor.
