Now all we can do is watch and wait." In these words Michigan golf coach Bert Katzenmeyer summed' up the chances of the Wolverine golf team for the Jl961 season.1 Coach Katzenmeyer cannotsafford to be overly optimistic this season after his golfers finished a dismal eighth in the Big Ten Conference meet last year at East Lansing. Michigan's squad has had its ups and downs in recent years. The year before last they finished sec- ond behind the Purdue Boiler- makers, who have dominated the Conference in recent years. Purdue has now won three straight team titles and in addi- tion have seen their number one man, Jon Konsek, capture three undisputed medalist crowns in a row. Team Balance In capturing the Big Ten title,, Sthe mostaimportant single asset Purdue has shown a team must have its team balance. To have one or two men battling for medal- ist honors is no deficit, but they cannot make up for high scores by the other four members of the team.' Michigan should have good team balance this year. Eight men are returning from last year's varsity; squad, which will see the loss of only two seniors, Larry Markman and Larry White. The loss of these two men should; not hurt the squad too greatly. Marknmncaptain of last year's team, played number three man; all year, while White did not play in the championship meet.
