There are many living oppor-
tunities for men students in Ann
Arbor - residence halls, apart-
ments, boarding houses, coopera-
tive houses, and fraternities.
Rush is a confusing but ex-
citing two-week period in which
men can acquaint themselves with
the fraternity houses at the Uni-
versity, and during which the
houses select their new members.
The Inter-Fraternity Council,
which governs the 44 "greek"
chapters, urges each man to go
through rush while at the Uni-
versity, so he can learn about this
way of life. Men's rush is operated
at the beginning of both the fall
and spring semesters. Freshmen
who join the a fraternity either
semester move into the chapter
house the next fall.
Rush Registration
Thos freshmen who wish to look
at the fraternity system their first
semester, and have not mailed in
a registration card during the
summer, may sign up for rush at
the Union from Sept. 26 to Oct. 4.
Anyone who may want to rush
must sign up. Registration does
not oblige a man to rush, just as
going through rush does not obli-
gate a man to join a fraternity.

information on rushing, and the
men can meet representatives

The mingling of rushees and
fraternity members is in two
stages. The first, open rush, be-
gins Sunday, Oct. 2 from 2 to 5
and 7 to 9 p.m., and includes the
next two nights as well.
During these four periods, all
houses are open for investigation
to any man withiout an invita-
tion. IFC advises each man to
visit at least 12 houses.
Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5,
and continuing for the next week
and a half, rushees whom the
chapters would like to consider for
membership are invited to return
to lunches, smokers and dinners.
After a few of these visits, the
house begins to send out "bids,"
or invitations to men to join its
chapter.
Robert Peterson, '82, IFC rush-
ing chairman, advises men to take
lots of time and thzink carefully
before deciding to join. Once a bid
is extended, it can be accepted
any time before the end of the
two-Week rushing period.
And here's what the well-
dressed rushee wears: suits dur-
ing open rush, informal dress for
lunches, and sports jackets or
blazers for dinners and smokers.
