Prof. Douglas D. Crary of the geography department was granted leave for the first semester of this year, without salary, so that he may take part in the State De- partment's Educational Exchange Program. He will conduct seminars, do field work and deliver lectures in the Near East. Researchers Get Leaves Two researchers in the Willow Run Laboratories were granted leaves. James A. Foote will be studying towards a master's de- gree in electrical engineering at the University, and James L. Pitts- ley will use his leave to travel in Central America, Europe 'and Asia. Registration' For Fall Rush Set To Open Registrations for the fall fra- ternity rush begin tomorrow at the main desk of the Union. All prospective rushees must be registered and have an Inter- fraternity Council identification tag in order to rush any of the University's 44 houses. IFC also has a rush booklet containing vital statistics about each frater- nity and information about the fraternity system in general. A special counseling service sponsored by the IFC will also start tomorrow. The purpose of this counseling is 'to providt the rushee with impartial answers to any questions he may have re- garding a particular house or a personal rushing problem. The Interfraternity Council's rushing program will include a mass rushing meeting which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Union ballroom. At this meeting the prospective rushee will be given valuable rushing ad- vice by the leaders of the IFC and will be able to meet representatives of each of the fraternities on campus. Ford of the University Library so that he may direct a project supported by the Council in Project for development of per- formance standards for library bindings. Off campus duty was assigned to Prof. Robert L. Hunter of the Medical School to continue his re- search in esterase activity in the laboratory of Dr. Helio B. Cou- tinho at the University of Recife, Brazil. Leave for Year Professors James A. Nicholls and Rudi S. Ong, both of the aero- nautical engineering department, were given leaves for the academic year. Ong received a National Science Foundation fellowship and will conduct research in magnetohy- drodynamics and study astro- and plasma physics at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. Prof. Nicholls will devote full time to re- search under a University Research Institute appointment. Prof. Hadley J. Smith will de- vote time to research sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and a Uni- versity Research Institute Con- tract during his leave froni the en- gineering mechanics department. Goes to NASA The National Aeronautics and Space Administration w i 11 a 15o have the services of Prof. Nelson W. Spencer of the electrical en- gineering department during his one-year leave. Prof. Spencer will head the planetary atmospheres branch at the Goddard Space Flight Center. A leave of absence to Prof. Leon- ard M. Uhr of the Mental Health Research Institute to enable him to do research outside of Ann Ar- bor was granted. Demetrius Sotiropoulos, fine arts librarian in the University Library, was given a leave from Oct. 28, 1960 to Aug. 31, 1961 to work to- wards the completion of his doc- toral dissertation in linguistics. Todd To Lecture About Education Helena Todd, president of Hull Teacher Training College in Eng- land, will speak on "Education in the Welfare State" at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Rackham Amphi- theatre.
