Monday through Friday, and Saturday 10:00 'til 11:30 A.M. OSLO, Norway (M)-Australia's Ron Clarke smashed two more world records last night in becom- ing the first runner to crack the 28-minute barrier for 10,000 met- ers. Running virtually by himself after the first couple of laps, the lean 28-year-old Aussia battered the pending world marks for six miles and 10,000 meters-about 61/4 miles-with fantastic times of 26:47.0 for six miles and 27:39.4 for the 10,000 over the fast Bislet Stadium track. He had predicted he would erase all marks for the distances but his times were almost incred- ible. He knocked 24.6 seconds off the pending mark of 27:11.6 for six miles and 34.6 seconds off the pending time for the 10,000. First Record Only last Saturday the Mel- bourne businessman became the first runner to crack the 13- minute barrier for three miles with a world record time of 12:52.4. The American Olympians, Billy Mills and Gerry Lindgren, had racked up a record-bettering time of 27:11.6 for six miles in their near dead heat in the National AAU championships at San Diego, Calif., last month. Clarke's time for the 10,000 far eclipsed his pending record of 28:14.0 set at Turku, Finland, last June 16. He is the holder of the listed world records of 27:17.8 for six miles and 28:15.6 for 10,000 met- ers..He posted these marks in one race in his home town of Mel- bourne Dec. 18, 1963. Cheered On The Australian was cheered on by a crowd of about 17,000. I-M Scores YESTERDAY'S RESULTS NCAC 19, Bus. SPORTS .SHORTS By The Associated Press NEW YORK - TherNew York Mets, going all out for 74-year- old Casey Stengel's youth develop- ment program, put.Warren Spahn on waivers for $1 yesterday. The Mets said the purpose of the waiver request, telegraphed to the National League office in Cin- cinnati, was to give the 44-year- old pitcher-coach his uncondi- tional release and an opportunity to make a deal for himself. The Mets previously had offer- ed him at the regular inter-club waiver price of $20,000 and found no takers. CHICAGO - F o u r unseededc players scared top-flight stars, but only Mike Belkin of Miami Beach, Fla., pulled an upset in, third-round play of the National Clay Courts Tennis Champion- ship yesterday. Belkin eliminated Davis Cupper Marty Riessen of Evanston, Ill.,I 6-1, 6-2. Arthur Ashe Jr., of Richmond,j Va., seeded second, had to strug-" gle before subduing William Le- noir of Tucson, Ariz., 5-7, 6-0, 10-8.
