Los Angeles regained the Na- tional League lead by thumping Cincinnati 11-7 for Don Drysdale's 12th victory. The Dodger ace, who snapped a five-game losing streak, hit his fourth homer of the sea- son. Lou Johnson had three hits for the Dodgers and drove in two runs. Ad. vs. Economics Ex-Champs Ask Boxing Commission WASHINGTON (P) - T h r e e former heavyweight boxing cham- pions told a congressional com- mittee yesterday that the fight game is getting worse and a box- ing commission should be created to control the sport's money grab in this era of electronics. Rocky Marciano, the most re- cent of the three heavyweight kings, also suggested that the sport might be improved by a little boxing league to develop talent. Jack Dempsey, looking muscu- lar and fit at 70, told the House Commerce Committee in reply to questions that he thought gang- sters were pretty much in control of boxing at one time. But he didn't know about today. Gene Tunney, who took the heavyweight crown from Demp- sey, didn't appear personally but sent a statement through his son, Rep. John V. Tunney (D-Calif). He said the proposed commission should bar any suspicious fight from being described or broadcast by interstate television, radio or wire services. Young Tunney, after reading his father's statement, urged the committee to draft a stronger bill than the one being considered. He also put in the record a letter from a man he named as Albert Cohen. Tunney said Cohen had had many fights and knew of numer- ous cases of fighters having to guarantee how a bout would end or else not get any more fights. Dempsey, in reply to questions, said it was possible to tell when a fighter was "pulling his punch- es," or laying down on the job. Chairman E. William Henry of the F e d e r a 1 Communications Commission said there is a "def- inite public interest in taking ef- fective measures to insure that the viewing public is not subject- ed to 'rigged' television matches." But the language of such a bill is a problem, he added. Marciano, looking a lot heavier since he retired as ,champion, said it is necessary for the federal gov- ernment to step in to control box- ing because he said the state box- ing commissioners are making a mockery of the sport.
