WIMBTEDON, England OP) - fending champion Roy Emerson Australia crushed California's nnis Ralston, 6-1, 6-2, 7-9, 6-1, sterday and gained the finals the Wimbledon Tennis Cham- )nship. Australia's Fred Stolle defeated uth Africa's unseeded Cliff 'ysdale, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, and gained e finals for the third straight ar. Stolle was beaten in the 63 final by American Chuck cKinley and bowed to Emerson the 1964 match. It took the Aussie only 20 min- es to win each of the first two s. Ralston rallied gamely to take the third set but Emerson reached the top of his game to close out the match. Break Service Emerson, taking advantage of Ralston's jittery service, broke the American three times in the first set. Ralston, serving first, double- faulted in! the first game and was broken easily. The same thing happened twice more as Emerson closed out the set by breaking Ralston's service. In the second set the Aussie made the key break-through on Ralston's service in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead as Ralston lost the last point on a double-fault. Emerson then held his own service and broke Denny's service for the set. In the 12th game set, with Emerson Ralston fought off of the third leading 6-5, four match points on his own service. served three double faults kept his head and pulled out game. In New York, Milt Woodard, as- sistant commissioner of the AFL, said: "We wish Atlanta the best. We win some and we lose some." Asked if the AFL still would put a franchise in Atlanta, Woodard replied: "I don't think so. Atlanta is not a two-team city. We will go elsewhere." Atlanta will play in the NFL's Eastern Division and will play each of the 14 other clubs the first .season. The team will be giv- en the first choice in the 1965 player draft and an extra selec- tion in each of the first five rounds. PHILADELPHIA - Mayor James Tate announced a' com- promise agreement yesterday giv- ing the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League a 10- year exclusive agreement for use of' the city's planned $25 million stadium. The agreement, which settled the' debate between the Eagles and the city over exclusive use of the stadium for professional foot- ball, also provides that the Uni- versity of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field will be available for any American Football League fran- chise which may locate here. Advised of the compromise, La- mar Hunt, a member of the AFL expansion committee said, "The league still wants to come to Phil- adelphia. But they want to take another look at it." The AFL said it wanted to field a team here next year, but under the compromise they will have to wait until 1967. * * * NEW ORLEANS - Sports pro- motor Dave Dixon said yesterday he has received an authentic feel- er from the American Football League for a 1966 expansion' fran- chise here. Dixon, president of New Orleans Pro Football Club, Inc., said he would meet with AFL officials at an undisclosed city today to dis- cuss the possibility of putting a league team in New Orleans. I Moffitt Wins Billie Jean Moffit of Long Beach, Calif., went through to the semifinals of the women's singles Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Australia's Lesley Turner and herself shouldering the American' flag alone. Nancy Richey of Dallas, Cliff Richey's elder sister, unexpectedly lost 4-6, 6-1, 5-7 to Christine Truman of Britain. In the semifinals today, Billie Jean will take on Maria Bueno of Brazil, the defending champion. Miss Truman plays Margaret Smith of Australia. Upset Mexicans Clark Graebner of Beachwood, Ohio, and Marty Riessen of Evans- ton, Ill., upset the Mexican Davis Cup pair of Rafael Osuna and Antonio Palafox 6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-0 to reach the semifinals of the men's doubles. The Mexicans sprang one of the sensations of the tournament last week when they downed the top seeds, Roy Emerson and Fred Stolle of Australia. Chamberlain Considerin & Other Sports NEW YORK 0P) -Wilt Cham- berlain, pro basketball's 7-foot-1 superstar, said yesterday he "def- initely is contemplating" a prize fighting career but emphasized he has made no decision on his ath- letic career. "I haven't made up my mind. It's my decision to make, and I'll make it when I'm ready-that could be anytime," the Philadel- phia 76ers record-holding scorer said. "But I am contemplating a box- ing career. And I've had several offers." Chamberlain, a strong 250- pounder with a varied athletic background, is the National Bas- ketball Association's highest-paid player, with a salary of about $70,000. Although he is only 28, he has announced his intention to retire several times in the past. The towering athlete, in a mag- azine series earlier this year, said he was interested in trying other forms of pro sports-notably box- ing or football. He is convinced he could succeed at either. Chamberlain, in addition to be- ing a basketball star in Philadel- phia and at the University of Kansas, also was a track standout, excelling at 'several running and field events.
