locker room. Now she's just a typ-
ical Jock-limbering nerves and'
muscles, waiting, fighting. It's not
a Marti Walker original, but a
shapless, tank suit. Not Gayle's
hamster, but her butterfly. Not a
calculus test, but a 2:08.9. All
for the Maize and Blue . .. and an
over-used coffee, pot.
Michigan's feminine f i n n e r s
spalshed into victory yesterday
afternon in Matt Mann pool, win-
ning *the Women's Intercollegiate
Swimming and Diving Champion-
ship Meet by a towering tally of
93 points, leaving Kent State a
distant second place with a score
of 351./
"The competition is getting bet-
ter and better," exclaimed Miss
Jo Phillips, coach of the victors.
"This year's, meet was the best
competition our swimmers have
had."
Girls Meet Challenge
Perhaps it was the challenge
that inspired the Women Wolver-
ines as they piled up four firsts,
five seconds, three thirds, and two
new records in the 16-event com-
petition. At the end of the pre-
liminaries, Michigan had placed
into the finals of all but four of
the events, thus ranking them
with Bowling Green, Ohio. State,
Kent State, and Michigan State
as heavy contenders for the title.
Wayne State had a chance with
Olympic swimmer Cindy Goyette;
Westchester had Sue Gantner;

Central had Jo Ann Scarborough;
and North Carolina had Sue
Rossiquie. But Michigan had
Ginny Duenkle. And she was
more than enough.
A gold medalist at the 1964
Olympics, Ginny brought Mich-
igan a win in the 100-yard back-
stroke, and second in the 200-yard
freestyle, only four-tenths of a
second from the top spot.
Only Kansas State marred
what would have otherwise been
a relay monopoly, winning in the
200-yard event, as Michigan swept
up the 200-yard freestyle, 400-.
yard freestyle and 100-yard med-
ley relays. A record of 4:19.2 was
set in the 400-yard relay by Mich-
igan's Lynn Allison, Ellen Wei-

four years of school.
A team can sign a boy, how-
ever, if he is 21 years old, if his
