Phip was runner-up in the Big Ten free ex and fourth in the NCAA while his brother Chip placed in both the free ex and long horse in 1966. The trampolining twins, Miller and Jacobs, will also compete in these two events. Strength Is Strength Enough? Loken feels that "the team looks as strong, if not stronger than last I year but the Big Ten this year is so much stronger." The Wolver- ine coach is especially concerned about Iowa and Michigan State as well as Illinois. Iowa is boasting a team of sensational sophomores, who beat the varsity last year, as well as experienced juniors and seniors. Michigan State will field a team almost identical to the squad that gave Michigan a run to the wire for the Big Ten cham- pionship. The Michigan gymnasts' first stern test of the season will be to- morrow when they travel to Chi- cago to compete in the Midwest Open. All Big Ten teams will be present along, with NCAA champ Southern Illinois and Chicago area schools. Though no team points will be recorded, the competition should give Loken's gymnasts an indication of what they will have to beat to retain the Big Ten crown for a seventh straight year. f 0 9 - L For your convenience during this busy holiday season our two neighborhood offices will be open every Saturday morning.
