A partisan Homecoming crowd of 63,439-largest ever to see a football game in Oklahoma-sat in dismay at Ara Parsegian's No. 1 ranked Irish exploded after a scoreless first quarter. The Notre Dame first string did not play after the third quarter.1 Oklahoma, ranked 10th nation- ally after winning four for new coach Jim Mackenzie, was beaten; into submission by a vicious Irishl defense. The Notre Dame offense didn't get uncorked until the second quarter, but when it did it ripped into the Sooners for 17 points in the second quarter and 21 in the third. * * * Uclans Bruise Cal BERKELEY - T h i r d ranked UCLA, behind the quarterback wizardry of Gary Beban and the elusive running of Mel Farr, beat California 28-15 yesterday for the Bruins' sixth football victory with- out a defeat. But a fourth-quarter Bear up- rising for points gave the Bruins Dame a few uneasy moments in the Pacific Eight Conference game. Beban passed for two touch- downs and repeatedly penetrated Cal's defenses with his roll-outs. Farr atook one of Beban's passes for a touchdown and got another in a 22-yard burst through tackle. The rookie from Michigan poured in eight points in the brief New York spurt to bring the Knicks within two points of the Celts at the close of1 the half. Then in the third quarter the cham- pion Celtics put the game out of sight with their 14-point burst, giving them a quick and decisive 75-58 lead which they never re- linquished. The prayers of Father Malcolm Boyd are unlike any you've ever heard. They're modern prayers, for modern man. Troubled man. Alienated man. And they speak his innermost thoughts, in his own language. They're prayers about sex and the bomb. Civil rights and mankind's wrongs. Love and hate. And Auschwitz. Guitarist Charlie Byrd's stunning original accompaniment heightens still further the dramatic intensity of each prayer on this unique LP. And the effect is devastating. As you'll hear in "What Was Hiroshima Like, Jesus, When the Young Girl Got Pregnant, Lord, and She Isn't Married" and 18 others, equally trenchant, equally compelling.
