Concerning o u t e r w e a r, the trench coat is a perennial favor- ite. Generally the cream-colored models are the most enduring, but darker shades, especially black, have also been consistently seen. In addition, the heavier corduroy outercoats have also persisted. The models are often dark green or tan in color. Next, in the sport coat line, a favorite for years, has been the tweeds. Varying shades of brown, particularly in the Herringbones, are consistently bought. Another favorite is the blue blazer. This versatile model is frequently worn all year around. Turning to dress shirts, the Ox- ford cloth, especially with the but- ton-down collar, is a long-time favorite for the college man. White is still the traditional col-- or for formal wear, but the stripes and pastels are gradually taking over. To go, with the sport jackets and shirts is the traditional tie. It is the striped model in a variety of color combinations. The diag- onal stripes also vary in thickness, but the striped effect is still pre- sent. Another clothing standard has been the khaki pants. This style is worn to class as well as with the brown tweed sport coat on more formal occasions. The cuffs may have gotten a bit narrower but the khaki look is still defin- itely a stable style. A last fashion constant occurs in footwear. The cordovan loafer and, to a lesser extent, the wing- tip brogue, have been on the cam- pus for years. In socks, dark colors have been standard wear, but more shades are now being worn. All that she has to do is buy a hairpiece. Hairpieces are appearing o n hundreds of Michigan coed's this fall. Girls with short hair sudden- ly have braids, chignons, swirls, and tails. Girls with long hair look as if their hair has grown 10 inches overnight. Daring people not only change the length of their hair but also its color. However this does cause some problems. The person who wears the wig may decide that her personality should change with her new hair. Thus, men had better beware when their usual curly, brown haired date appears with long slinky blond hair. New social graces are appearing to cope with the hairpiece. Fel- lows are learning to be discreet when their date's hair falls off. They are learning not to look too shocked when their date appears in her new hairdo. Girls are learn- ing to be understanding when their dates don't recognize them. Hairpieces sometimes c a u s e problems, but they also cause fun. Today they are priced to fit any girl's budget. So men, don't be surprised if your date turns up with a long switch of hair. Just be careful when running your hands through it! Look Bright With Fashion No well-dressed coed can hide in the background if she wears this season's bright, dashing col- ors. Grass green, rich purple, crome yellow and hot orange make any collection of fashions look very much alive. These colors look vibrant by themselves, but today's fashions make them look even more vi- brant. Dress designers today are combining colors which would never have been combined yes- terday. For example, one dress by Lit- tell has long green sleeves, a yel- low bodice and a bright red skirt. Its belt is striped red, yellow and green. Another dress by St. Lau- rent combines bold stripes of black, royal blue, purple and green. Fashions look more like pieces of art than ever before. Prints combine the colors that are used individually in dresses with strong"lines. Pink and or- ange paisley is a hit this year. Flowered prints combine all the colors of the rainbow. The person who watches fash- ions can't hide in the background. Colors have gone rampant. of vi rI TIES, TIES, TIES ... Ann Arbor merchants' styles and colors are all in tune with the latest fashion. From wide bold paislies to tradi- tional, narrow rep ties, you will find an ever increasing selection of neckwear to choose from. One of the most popular new items is the polka dot tie in bright contrasting colors. New Styles First at Wild's Cordu royls Here For Fall of '66 Corduroy is hitting the scene in many departments of the male collegian's fall wardrobe. Wide wales in solid'colors are becoming quite popular, in addition to the more traditional narrow wale gar- ments. Outer jackets are frequently wide-wale corduroy versions of the pea coat. Styles vary from the horizontal cords with silver or gold buttons to the more familiar vertical corduroy. Such custom- ary coats feature slashed upper and flapped lower pocketsuand wooden buttons. Linings can be found in any color pattern, from bright red to gold or paisley, Turning to sport jackets, the cord look is illustrated in the t h r e e-button, natural-shoulder models with flapped pockets and leather buttons. Some versatilej types can be converted into outer coats by adding a wool or rayon lining. Corduroy pants, which are tra- ditionally thin wale, are supple- mented by the thick waled types. Models include the cuffless slacks and the Western style jeans, Completing the cord trend are the Western style sport shirts, which were previously dominated by the wool flannel material. The pinwale corduroy selections main- tain the popular button flaps for the chest pockets. The corduory material, in ad- dition to being the most tradi- tional material of many styles, has also shown itself to be easily adaptable to the newer "Mod" styles which have become so pop- ular with the young set. - 113 S.
