SUNDAY, MARCH 27, 1966 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGEa x SUNAYMARh 2, 166 HEMICIA BA N P(3 MU _? a nAJL UL' f i:l\ THIS JAUNTY T-SHIRT is a natural for the summer sportsman. 61t will travel well to any golf-course, and make a hit in the next regata. This is, of course, an easy care garment as well, needing only a quick turn in a washing machine to keep it fresh. > <.MEN AT WORK IS THE title for this pair of hard-working, hard-playing spring casuals. The breezy look og a sleeveless shift is high- lighted by crisp young patterns, to fit into even the 'most unusual setting. The dashing pull-over effect is brought off with ease, also. Both outfits are wash-and-wear, to meet the demands of an active college life, whether it be in the classroom or out for a motorcycle ride. Poor Boy to Doit Again Appearing as an outgrowth of the Poor-Boy craze which swept college campuses last fall is the new Spring "T-Shirt." The boyish cut of the popular ribbed sweater, is preserved, but a cotton orjersey material is the base. There is a wide range. of plain shirts, in col- ors blooming out from white to vivid chartreuse. An even lighter effect is achieved in the nonribbed Urchin-shirt, with its wide banded stripes reminiscent of childhood days on the sandlot. Most Ann Arbor merchants will display a large number of these summer shirts. The introduction of this new pullover, cool enough to weather all the warmth, is expect- ed to make as large a change in the usual coed look as the Poor- boys did last fall. The ever-popu- lar cotton print or the cap-sleeved. pleated front, blouse may have a new challenger. Designed for more casual wear, the tank-tops will sally forth on the shelves again this Spring. Many manufacturer's are produc- ing this sleeveless skimmer in com- bination with hip-slung or bell- bottomed pants. The accent falls on a long and narrow silhouette, stretching from a deep declotage to the flared bell bottom of the pant. Colors will be coordinated for the conservative, or madly mingled for those who want a look which is slightly wild. Accessories To Reflect Spring Colors The following is a compellation of accessory facts for Spring. In general, the gloves, the hat, and the purse of the season will follow the larger trends evident in cloth- ing: Purses are loathsome things There are so few that look good, that the thing tod o is to buy a belted trench coat. The belt will not only gather the boat, but you may then put your I.D. and S.D.S. cards in one pocket and your cig- arettes in another. The pockets will not bulge and your hands will be free to do whatever hands na- turally do. Get the trench-coat in a very neutral color so that when it gets really dirty it just looks natural. Also get a coat with a reasonably largelsize so that when it rains and you have forgotten your umbrella you can pull your collar up. You may get a nasty head cold but you'll be free of a stiff neck. 0 Shoes are becoming softer and softer. The foot, it seems, has finally been recognized as a truly feminine item and is to be trussed up accordingly. The ballet slipper is the basic shape upon which both dress and walking shoes are based this Spring. An interest in texture is displayed everywhere, as shoes' are composed of a lattice-work of patent, suede, and various styles of wild young leathers. " Gloves have begun a resurg- ence among a society which has long ago forgotten 'how to duel. Maintaining the wide-spread trend of modern art, the new gloves are ablaze with lucious polka-dots and bright stripes. An even more dar- ing Op effect is on the market as manufacturer's slice into gloves to create huge lacey holes. " Easter bonnets will hug a girlish head this year, as a part of the whole London-look. Little knit caps, which tie with whimsical ribbons under a pert chin, are expected to be the most popular. However, Paris, in a fit of never- say-die, is making a bid for the flat brimmed mounty cap. Made of a stiff leather or suede, these hats are set squarely on the head and will probably flatter only the most modish of faces. * The great leg continues into Spring with opulent hose. How- ever, as the heat increases, the patterened stockings will lean more to the lacey side. White nylons are especially popular in ers are unsure of the mass market appeal. As every young woman knows, the lighter the color of her hosiery, the more emphasis that is placed on the rotundity of even the most well-turned calf. 0 Scarves are in, and its a mat- ter of both quality and quantity. The silken paisleys which . now wrapped the coeducational heads on campus, will blossom out into full scarf-hats. These are worn bandana-fashion, for a look which is half gypsy, half urbanity. The ever-increasing declotage will be filled with scarves of all shades, plain and patterned. The most popular style will be a puffy neck- piece, a la ascot, appearing at the collar of a cut-away jacket. At- other place for the ubiquitous scarf will be in a matching set of purse and head-piece. This bright combination can be worn with any t a New York, but some manfuactur- linen shift, or raw-silk suit. § § § S § § § § a§ § r§ 4§ %selection.
