The pin-stripe will retain its respectability, of course. but designers arehoping that the shirt will begin to make its way out from under wraps. Already the mass of pin-striped shirts being produced are done in multi- colors, usually a mixture of other favorites such as olive and ma- roon. The polka-dot shirt, may, of course, be worn with a tie under any type of suit jacket. The tail- ored effect is best achieved by a polka dot when it is assembled with a tuxedo or plainly colored dinner jacket. For slightly more vivid looks, this shirt wears well under a tweed sports jacket or a finely patterned suit. But the real aim of the creators of such wild new shirts is to release it com- pletely from the simple context of something to be worn "under- neath." Soon, they hope, men will awake to the possibilities of shirts worn for their own decorative ap- pearance. Then the shirt will be- come an autonomous product, sim- ply tucked in, with no need of further adornment. Or, as things progress in the rapid world of fashion, the shirt may become a pullover affair, worn bloused over tha b lt lin.
