CEDAR BEND HOUSING was started in the fall of 1934. It is situated near the school of music
building on North Campus. In deciding which buidings should be located where, University plan-
n'ers are going by the concept of moving specialized schools away from the heart of Central Campus
anl let the literary college remain there. The specialized schools will have residences around them,
but away from the center of the 'North Campus complex.

WORK BEGAN ON THIS $1.75 million dollar Space Research Laboratory in March, 1964. It was completed recently. The7National
Aeronautics and Space Administration provided funds for the building. NASA is currently working on some 30 research projects at the
University ranging from investigating heat transfer in rocket fuel tanks to measuring atmospheric pressure on the moon. The site of
the building, at Hayward and Beal Sts. was selected because of its relationship to other aeronautics units.

THE INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL RESEARCH will soon be at a
new location on Thompson Street, in the Central Campus area.
Work was begun on the building in May, 1964. This building will
be exclusively for the institute. The institute began work in Old
University Hall, which was torn down. It moved to an elementary
school, and then West Hospital, where it presently is. The staff.
of over 200 now requires a new building. The building is being
financed through federal funds, private grants and University
funds.

NORTH CAMPUS CENTER was started in April, 1964, and recently completed. It houses cafeterias,'
and meeting rooms for both staff and students. The entire North Campus will be able to use the
facilities of the center. The University may take one-half of their student fee allocations to the Michi-
gan League and use that money to finance the Center. The means of financing are not yet clear.

BURSLEY HALL is near the Music School on North Campus.
The University is planning its North Campus residence halls
around the outskirts of the school buildings, mostly to the north
and west. The University is trying to learn from its experiences
of planning (and not planning) Central Campus. It wants to
have all North Campus development plans guided by planning
concepts.
